Hey, folks! I've had the same AOL desktop background for several years and am dying to change it. Only problem is, how? They've remodeled the site and I can't find the desktop selection. Sites that help with this sort of thing insist that I upgrade to the current version of AOL, but I have a 56K modem and detest the new look anyway. Is there any way to change my background? Forgive me for asking such a trivial question, but I just can't find anything that helps.

I have AOL 9.0, by the way.

Okay, the only real solution, is to STOP using AOL. Seriously their software is crap ware. If you have to use the Windows Dial Up feature if you have dial up (from what I understand from your post) and then use something like Safari. Just AOL is terrible! You are better off upgrading to broadband and getting a new service provider.

Just go to Keyword - Preferences & then under Customize AOL select Desktop or Desktop Themes.
Thanks very much for your help.

Ollie, I would very much like to stop using AOL. Trust me, I detest half the features. :P Plus, everything on AOL seems to be designed for people with a cable connection, so it's very frustrating for someone with a 100 foot 56K modem. Unfortunately, I am 16 and use my dad's computer, and he has 100% faith in AOL, so that's what I'm stuck with. For now, I've started using IE 8 and found I much prefer it to AOL. The only thing I need that it lacks is mail/IM, so I simply signed up with Windows Live. Problem solved (somewhat :).
I am 15 and I control all the technology in the house. Mainly because no one else knows anything about it. We were on AOL until last August and it was HORRIBLE. I made my mom change and even she can notice the difference. Also I would not recommend IE8, it is still very, I don't know how to describe it, more icky. It just does not feel very nice (to me anyway) and it is much slower than other browsers like Safari or Chrome. Also Windows Live is bloatware and spam. Gmail is much more recommended!

April Fools Day was a week ago today, ya know...and I've been out of bed with my first cup of awesome Louisiana coffee and and see THIS.

I don't know weather to laugh, cry - or respond. So I'll just laugh at the question posed and anyone gullible enough to post an answer it. Maybe it will die a natural death.

Pirillo, you getting some mileage out of this one too, huh dude! ROTFLMBFAO !
people still use aol? or better question, they still sell aol?
Yeah they're still selling it - and I have ONE address in my contacts manager using it.
ONE out of almost 800. they sell a homepage with some stuff..didn't take the time to check out pricing though.

Amazing. It's like buying a car with no air conditioning down here on the Gulf Coast. Best of luck with that....
'Scuse me for seeming superannuated, but I can't change ISPs-I'm underage and my dad won't let me. Besides, I dislike AOL as much as the rest of you, but I don't pay the bills in my house, so I'm stuck using it until I get my own laptop. For now, I do most of my actual browsing in IE 8. I know it's basic, but I prefer it to-oh, say Google Chrome. Yuck.

And a note to Buffet-at last check, I am technically a lady.
*screams* aol?! i used that service from like 2000 to 2007. was not a good internet experience -_-
I never used AOL until recently, and I do so now only to spy on my ex-boss' website without him knowing I'm checking in to see what he's up to. AOL uses a proxy server that's virtually untraceable. My hits on his server logs will only show up with AOL's ISP, likely from Reston, VA--just like it will for all of the other AOL users out there. This is the great thing about AOL that I'm surprised people don't take advantage of. Yes, there are other ways to be anonymous, but this way is much easier and preferable to me.
