You can't be addicted to programming. That would be like a sales clerk being addicted to sell more stuff.

Programming always happens from necessity, as does nearly any job. Addiction is not at play here - addiction can only happen when you can feel a high from a particular activity — and is limited to things that are either harmful or at least not positive in nature.

All I do is built around me being able to program. I constantly think about it and do it or learn different languages and look for peoples codes to debug.

I may not be snorting or swallowing anything but I sure am addicted to the 'activity' and do gain a "high" from it.

Well, I'm a Programmer Analyst. Programming is my job. I do it for a living. In a way, I envy you because you get to program for fun. So, my advice is: LEARN, LEARN, and LEARN some MORE. Decide what platform you want to code in and then pick up the language you want to focus on and then practice by writing as much code as possible!

I envy the people who program what they like for a living. I get paid to program what I am told and usually without any opinions from me, as they come to me with pages of how things should occur and usually never how I would do it but I have to keep it shut :(... Even though they outsourced my company to do the work, still gotta keep it shut :(
