Hey! I am currently a computer engineering technology major and am looking to get certified somewhere in the computer/technology realm, wether it is software or hardware. What are some good certifications that are good to have.

I would start by getting your ICDL as this is just a very basic thing to show you are capable of using a computer.
This is like saying what specialty should a DR persue before he decides....you would have to make a valid choice and focus on that type of certs to really make it worth your time and money IMO. Cisco cert used to be killer but I do not believe they are much anymore....you would not want to get certified in hardware A+ ETC if you are going to work on software as a job and vise versa why be a paper MCSE if you are never going to use it? Find a path that you are interesated in and take those certs that pertain to the area or even a job that interests you...
I just graduated with a master's In Information Technology and i am leaning more to web design or network security so how would I research these fields to find out what is available .
