1) Restart

2) Wait 1/2 hours min, 3 hours max with the spinning wheel

3) If nothing, reinstall OS X

whay that long?? il try it, no reason not to
lol that is ridiculously long for installation of an OS
It's not the installation. Obviously something went wrong. OS X usually tries to do a silent self-repair, which does take a long time (I've had a machine "boot" for 2 hours with the spinning wheel, but then afterwards it was nice and quick... and best of all, the thing did eventually start working again - even though I thought it couldn't get past the boot screen).
i waited 4 hours then gave up, reinstalled os x and used mgration tool wit boot camp, way faster =)

WTF? Yaayy Apple, nice goin! pfftt

However, I will admit my NEW work Mac with 10.6.6 (Core i3 3.06GHz, 4 GB RAM) is at least some better then my old G5, at least it's not so damn sluggish. 10.6.6 still looks drab and gray like all the other OS-X's...depressing. Ugh.

I kind of prefer the gray interface. It helps me concentrate on the task I'm at. For example, my mind is not drawn away from my schoolwork, writing, etc., but I am rather concentrated on what I need to do, not what my OS looks like.

But I do agree, the interface *is* rather outdated. I, personally, would welcome a major UI change. But nothing colorful, a nice grayish design is most relaxing for me.

BUT the Apple Pro Apps (Final Cut Studio, Logic Studio at least) colour scheme – light gray is very, very depressing, and rather ugly. I strongly prefer After Effects' interface default colour scheme.

That's my point, Win 7 has unlimited combinations (of course you know this) and plain old gray is one of them, if you want it. So there is basically something for everyone. : )

What I suggest is NEVER use a time machine backup, and ALWAYS to a clean install. This helps eliminate all sorts of headaches and issues.

You can always copy your important information over manually.

Curious... did the machine ever reboot after waiting?  Did you get impatient and just went from scratch?  What was the outcome?
rsinstallin and using mirgration tool is the way to restore, the other way is way too slow :P
