So i ask of you all have you ever been misplaced or misunderstood in the social scale?

Let me elaborate I being a geek and that of a higher mind of my fellow classmates was recently told that i come across as Posh for those of you who don't know posh being just little rich kids that talk funny and well kiss on two cheeks when meeting a person for the first time etc very well boring and not who i am!

but regardless this was the first impression that i have apparently given to my classmates in college because i talk perhaps differently (smart) and so i decided to pose this question has anyone ever placed or made assumptions of you that are clearly wrong! i mean they thought i went to a private school for god sake never even been to such a place i did laugh but you know what it did make me think about it alot do geeks often get this presupposition?

Before I got my tongue cut in half at work five years ago, everyone thought I was gay because of the way I spoke... My grammar and pronunciation were 'perfect', and I spoke without a detectable 'Georgia' Southern accent. Absolutely unheard of here, since the mean education level is like 6th grade. Know what you're talkin boot :>

Think it is MUCH lower than that...

This year in my US Geog & HIst class some one though the American CIVIL War was between the US & Germany!!!!WTF!

How the hell did they make it to 11th grade?

Nope, I live in Cadillac MI, there are some smart people here, the education system is good, for those who pay attention and arn't stoned 1st hour.

I have more depressing stories.

But maybe I will save those for later.

I grew up in Indianapolis in the 60s, and still have family there, though I live in the Southwest now. The city had and has educated people on the north side and far south side (where I lived). In the rest of the city there were and are a lot of rednecks and other ignorant types in between that just don't care about school. The Indy rednecks still don't like educated people.

That educational stratification happens in a lot of other Midwestern cities as well, so I'm told.
Like, W T F?
Germany was involved in enough trouble...
...we don't need to be blamed for the Civil War, thats for sure!
I am German my self so tell me about it. butwith create history facts do not matter.
LOL Didn't know Germany was part of the States!
you learn something new everday lol.

Oh the judgements that I have been given are great. Needless to say I now laugh at them. Most people thought I was the druggie kind in high school. As a freshmen I was friends with the "Drama Geeks" and wore a cheerleader like uniform. I was on the dance team. On Fridays it was about school spirit and during the week my wardrobe label was never the same.

I realized that a lot of people thought I was a lesbian when I moved to California and had a rainbow patch over the jansport patch. My backpack was olive green. At one point a male friend of mine told me you know the whole school thinks your a lesbian? I died of laughter. And thought all because I have a rainbow on my backpack. So I started wearing my rainbow belt and shirts and jewelry. I had fun with people's judgements.

Middle school I was actually less popular then elementary.
I tend to come off as more knowledgeable about stuff I than I am. But that's my own fault. It's the way I talk. Why? I don't know. Sometimes I wish I'd knock it off. I mean when I don't know something I try to acknowledge that, but somehow there are still folks who think "Ask Joe" before they look it up.
I dont think thats a bad thing...

...I kind of have the same "problem" that all my folks ask me about everything, seek advice for their problem or whatnot.

But I get used to it.
there is nothing wrong with talking different as long as it is not "what's up yo peace homes". if that is the way you talk more power to you just do not reporduce. I wod like to think that idiocracy will not come true.
