I was wondering if anyone knew of any good screen recorders because I am right now using the BSR screen recorder 4. I don't like it very much, and I now there is better software than it, I just dont know where. Thanks.

Google CamStudio. It's very easy to use and is pretty good.
I believe the one I used for a bit was CamStudio, it's open source, but only works under Windows if that's a concern.

Camtasia sets the standard that others try to meet.

For some samples check out DNRTV

For a free solution that doesn't require the user to install any drivers I've used Wink It takes a little getting used to, but once you do, it's quite powerful. I actually prefer it because I can remove frames and it will automatically have the mouse smoothly flow from one position to another without jumping.
For $300 I hope Camtasia does more than record your GPU's output...I could buy a pretty darn good GPU for $300 :P
It's the editing features that you're paying for. For my needs Wink works better, but some of the zoom features of Camtasia have been useful for trade show videos.
Fair enough, screencasting has never been anything more than somethin neat to tool around with, or a handy way of showing someone (a friend or family member, not all of YouTube, not into that myself :P) exactly how to do something, for example, set up a complex program. I suppose if you need to make presentations and they need to be professional then the investment is worth it. I'd be buying the GPU myself ;)
Wink is definitely what you're looking for then. You basically record screen shots of each mouse position that is important and tell the program how long to wait or if you want to wait for a button press. The program then connects the screen shots into a smooth video.

And yes I'd buy the GPU as well.
camtasia sucks
This isnt good [alone] for recording, but as a good means of live capture, i recommend VHScreenCap and VHMulticam Studio http://www.splitmedialabs.com/vh-multi-camera-studio
CamStudio (OpenSource) + CamStudio Lossless Codec = GREAT!
Speaking of Camstudio, anyone know a good, high quality way to compress the files?

I've tried using settings others have on Xilisoft - Highest on everything, but the video is just horribly pixelated. Used H.264/AVC as codec. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with my OS - XP? Nah, doesn't make sense. But the good quality videos I've seen are all on Vista/7.
Yeah, but have you found settings that hardly lose quality and yet greatly compress the file? Seeing some videos on YouTube - they are great quality, but for some reason, I can't get that kind, even with the same settings.
