Geek Out!

More Information

Well, I'm a little older than your "average" Geek here, and I come from the pre hard drive days. In the beginning we would lose anything in memory upon power down. We graduated to the then "massive" storage device of 5.25" floppy disk. Usually one for the OS and one for storage. I didn't have an actual hard drive until my first 286 computer.

My first hard drive was a whopping 40 megabyte...that's right MEGABYTE...not GIGABYTE! It had a 30 meg partition for DOS and later I installed Windows 3.0 (not 3.1), and a hidden 10 meg partition. Ah, those were the days!

How big was your first internal drive? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Mine was 30 gigs.

I also miss those floppy disks... Haha
Same here. 30GB. I thought I was in high cotton, too.
Haha good times... good times.
my first was a 20 gig, thought it'd be enough. Now I don't have enough space on my 250 gig external.
20GB, probably had one with less before that, but I didn't bother knowing since I was like 8 y/o :X
Mine was under a gig. Of course I also remember the 5.25 floppy on my C64. I think it was called a 1541. the drive croaked on me and I couldn't get it fixed. It was a disk alignment problem whatever that is.it was't until the Windows 95 and Pentium that I got back to a computer. We started surfing the web ...........give me a cold beer and let's reminisce.
Seagate ST-506 MFM (Modified Frequency Modulation) = 5MB in 1980
Seagate ST-412 MFM (Modified Frequency Modulation) =10 MB in 1981
Seagate ST-412 RLL (Run Length Limited) =10 MB in 1981

Back then Seagate was called Shugart Technology.
I am in the same era as you Zune80...
