I was helping my mum use her new iPhone tonight and she went to me 'Paul you know what? Your very patient when you teach somebody something new.' Now that got me thinking, I've never really thought about how well I teach someone. Usually I will just go with the flow and get on with it. I do find it rewarding when I teach somebody something new.

What about you my follow comrades?

I have no patience at all !! I just finished with my husband who has never really gotten on a pc (I don't let him use my network)lol. But I just bought him a laptop and he was putting an email together for an order he hasn't gotten. He asked a gazillion times "How do you get to the next line?" GAWD!! My throat hurts from tawkn'

When I used to substitute for the teachers at my college. I would start my class with telling the students I'm going to tell you once so pay attention and any questions, ask now...
So nope, not a good substitute for TARDS either.
I'm an terrible teacher. I really don't have patience :((
I guess you can't learn the skill patience, some people either have it or don't?

Would a person with patience be a good teacher then?
Kudos Paul!!!!
Sorry I don't follow?? lol
I mean like kudos to you for having patience and teaching ur mum.
Ah I see I've never came across the word 'Kudos' before, we learn something new everyday :D
No patience here. Doesn't matter what I'm trying to teach. My family uses me as free tech support often and it can be irritating at the very least. You'd think that I'd get used to it though the years, but unfortunately that hasn't been the case.
Yup, I stopped being the family tech too. It gets annoying. Not only do you become a teacher but from the moment u do the favor to fix it u automatically become the person they come to for everythin. Oh, my computers started doing this and that. Who cares? They either don't know what there doing or they just screw it up again, cuz they know they get free service. I stopped. I started with (since I didn't have the heart to say pay me or NO) I said, let me see when I have time. That could of taken 3 months and then never. And they never even said, I'll pay you.

I paid for school, I get paid at work for what I do. Shouldn't u then Pay me too especially for my time. I was even using from my spare parts. No one ever said, "Here's $25 so you can buy yourself a lip gloss or something" WTF?
woooooooooooooooooow

angry much? lol

if you dont want to help a family/friend out, then just tell em you dont want to. you have a skill they dont, dont get bent out of shape just because they come to you for help because you know something they dont. damn
what if you needed help from one of them, and they did what you do? i bet you would act differently
First of all none of them can help me with crap! Love em' all! but I'm the only technically inclined one in the whole family. Most of the famales can't even hang a picture without breaking a nail and the Men, well lets just say don't meet my mental capacity with anything.

I have about 30 female cousins and very few males, maybe 10 males. That does not include the cousins husbands, uncles or whatever.
No, it's not that u come to me but that u come thinking my time and service is FREE!!! If you went to the Geeksquad (hey, that was CircuitCity, righ? ) or what's the one from Best Buy? something DOG, or whatever. U have to pay right?

I don't mind help. But years of free service it's over for me. I've had family members that I've fixed there pc upto 4x and never offered any $$. But when the husbands friend came by to look at it, he got paid $100. OH, He charges too much, Datz what they say. I mean C'mon. This is my time were talking about here. U don't think I'd rather be doing something other than messing with your broke, old azz PC then having to explain to you what I did.
So yes, I don't do it anymore and yes, it still makes me angry because in this world when u try to be nice u just wind up running into a bunch of opportunist.

I have a few that never paid me anything either. but they were considerate. They were like oh, come by and I'll cook dinner or they would ask How much your going to charge me? Do you charge alot? U know to them, I still do what I can and I gave them all parts free. Because they ateleast had the courtesy to offer.
Yeah. now obviously people I care for and who don't take ' Advantage' I will help out for free, without even thinking about payment. But when its someone who knows someone and they say oh can you fix so and so's PC, I be like sure because I know I get paid..Well that the plan! But no he didn't even offer to pay, so I kept his PC.. still got it now haha.

I said until you pay me a reasonable amount, you can have it back :) Fair though right?
