More Information

Hello everyone,

The post is not intended to start a Mac vs PC war, however I understand this website is definitely more Mac- than Windows-centric. I enjoy both operating systems, both having their pros and cons. However, the Mac users have got to get their heads around that Microsoft are by no means, at all, a weak company, especially in terms of OS sales (read this article to see what I'm referring to).

I am not a Windows fanboy, but Microsoft do not need Windows 7 to save them: regardless of what Apple's Ads say, Vista was not a failure- sure it wasn't overwhelming, but a lot more Vista computers get sold than Mac computers.

Some facts about OS (Linux, which I also like, is largely disregarded here):

In the US: 90% PC, 10% Mac
In the world: 95/96% PC 4/5% Mac
300 million Windows computers sold a year against 10 million Macs.

Microsoft are so far from being weak.

Please don't flame, genuinely comment, what I have said is true.

Totally with you on this, let's hope some of the Mac User (not "fanboys") are mature enough to accept this.
as a mac and windows user i have to say, i do love my mac, am i a fanboy, hell no,but i do prefer my mac to my laptop, which is now running windows 7, which is a real nice os.

its all personal preference, there is no need for being a fanboy, the mac os is really good and so is the new windows 7, vista wasn't great but they fixed a lot of the problems with it.

but the numbers don't lie, personally i loved the mac adds, they amused me, but truth behold they were taking shots at windows, which wasn't necessary.

they don't have huge sales, or the highest speced hardware, but there good solid, really nice designed machines (although i don't see why u need to sell a kidney to pay for one)

but windows has been and i reckon always will be the top dog, because its not a hardware company. I bet that 90 percent or 95 precent would take a hit if osx was supported by apple on other computers bar there own. But i don't reckon that would happen.

i do like a good old mac vs pc war, cause i just stir it from both sides :)

but in this case ill behave :):):)

good thread
Thanks, and you're completely right with the thing about about OS X (officially) running on other hardware. People also don't realise that in the 90s Microsoft invested in development in Apple, which in many ways saved, along with the return of Jobs, saved the company.
i agree windows is alot easyier to use and mac really go for the design look and is over expensive tbh
ive always had windows all my life because its such a kick ass machine i had a sony vaio as my first machine with XP on it and i was impressed!
now i have windows 7 ultimate on my e systems 4115c and its amazing!
vista was crap on this machine

i recommend every vista user to upgrade to win 7 aspa tbh its alot better than any other windows OS
Right, this is the first time people really can't deny Windows has a better (more attractive/functional UI) than OS X, and far more customizable.
Well, that one is arguable. I, personally, prefer OS X's GUI to Windows 7's, but only by a little.

The only real problem I have with Windows 7s GUI is that Cleartype looks horrible, and if you turn it off or try to fix it, it looks even worse.

Customizability is also something of a myth, that Macs can't be customized (either by hardware upgrades or software GUI/other). If we are talking hardware upgrades, then my MacBook is the single most easy-to-upgrade computer I have ever owned. If we are talking about GUI customizability, then, well... I made iTunes look dark and nice on my eyes yesterday...
I mean customization as in making the OS GUI look and work the way you want it to, just to clear that up.
Technically, you can't compare the two, as the only company that sells computers with Mac OS X is Apple, whereas thousands of different OEMs sell their computers with Windows.

Apple and Microsoft can not be compared in terms of OS sales. One is mainly a hardware manufacturer and the other is mainly a software manufacturer.

The only thing I can see compared is the iPod and Zune, and, if you take a look at the sales, the iPod is a clear winner. Hey, the Zune isn't even sold outside the US.

I just came back from London yesterday. Not to be in any way biased towards anything, but the only computer I saw there, anywhere, were MacBook Pros and iMacs. I did not see ONE PC during my whole trip... well, one or two maybe. But I did see hundreds of Macs around there. And EVERYONE had an iPhone.

If we are talking in terms of usage around the world, it seems like 4-5% is not a very good estimate.

I agree, Vista wasn't a failure. Vista wasn't *that* bad. It just got a lot of bad press at the beginning, making people, who hadn't used it, hate it. I'm sure very few of the problems (not counting any annoying things about it) were caused by the OS and most were really caused by either the hardware or the user.

I'm a Mac user. I don't believe Microsoft needs saving.
Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy Johannes S.

"I'm a Mac user. I don't believe Microsoft needs saving"
So different from what u use to say. Glad that u now have an open mind about it all.
An interesting topic as i am a PC user for all my short lifetime i have yet to have a full mac experience the only time i have ever used a mac was when i fixed it :P back to the post Microsoft does not need saving and they do create some very nice and workable software the hardware has left me a little something to be desired "MS own hardware"

Vista was ok on the lower spec systems and only took off until the release of SP2 which has really helped vista along in many factors. The release of windows 7 has brought about the fact that windows has still got a good operating system under the bad press that has been associated with it.

Apple as a company has a much better sales within other markets such as the Iphone and ipod which have both done wonders within there market place beating all the rest after you get a ipod you will unlikely go back to regular old mp3 players or perhaps even a regular phone.

i am not a PC fanboy although i readily admit my time with a mac has been short lived and that a PC can frustrate me alot of the time and linux is just not my cup of tea. Microsoft has given me highs and lows in many areas of there operating systems to there xbox 360's but apple has so far given me only good experiences with there ipod which may lead me to make the large jump to purchase a mac if there is such a time that i am able to do so.

Hopefully this thread can be kept civil and to both mac and pc users and more importantly

I am a PC and i want to try a mac.
Technically, you can't compare the two, as the only company that sells computers with Mac OS X is Apple, whereas thousands of different OEMs sell their computers with Windows.

You can really compare, as Apple could drop their prices and/or sell their OS to other OEMs, they just choose not to.

Apple and Microsoft can not be compared in terms of OS sales. One is mainly a hardware manufacturer and the other is mainly a software manufacturer.

I wouldn't say "Apple is mainly a hardware manufacturer"- I don't think that's really true.

The only thing I can see compared is the iPod and Zune, and, if you take a look at the sales, the iPod is a clear winner. Hey, the Zune isn't even sold outside the US.

However, Apple relies on the iPod/iPhone much more than Microsoft relies on Zune.

I'm not trying to flame you, but I don't think you're right on all this stuff.
what drug were you on when you wrote this? anyone whit any intelligent knows the lockgnome world mostly revolves around pc use not mac use. it always has.
