I'm worried about always relying on my home network for storage. I worry that one day my 1TB of storage will die and I will lose everything. I store everything from funny pictures off the internet to sensitive, confidential files on my trusty external HDD but it's starting to get old. I want to always know that I have a secure, encrypted copy of everything I have somewhere - whether it be a NAS solution or online.

If online backups are the way to go, then how do I add more layers of protection? I've been told that the online backup companies don't do enough to secure our files. I want to have that piece of mind knowing that my files are sitting in some datacenter somewhere, fully secured. I'm open to all options, but I'm on a budget. I've looked at NAS solutions (the concept interests me, but it doesn't cure all my worries), as well as Mozy, Box.Net etc.

Help?!

buy a blue ray burner, buy blu ray discs, back up to discs, put discs in safe spot.
Uhhhh.... Use a condom? That might help.
the safest online backup solution is to not use an online backup solution. No amount of security is going to stop someone from getting what they want online, period. You'r better off with your physical backups, and every 2-3 years buying a new drive and mirroring it over.
