Check your settings...If you are using Windows, please go to "Control Panel"
START/CONTROL PANEL/SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES/VOICE

If not, please check your sound card settings for example like Realtek Audio Provider! :)

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for it?

Depending on how desperate you are you know headphones can be used as a microphone =)

Would re-install sound drivers

If desktop check sound card is fixed in place properly (if using one)
have you tried another mic to check if your mic isn't just broken

What's your operating system & specs, is it a desktop or laptop, is it a plug-in mic or a built-in (like in a webcam or laptop)...

Did it ever work- & if so, when did it stop functioning?
