Permalink Reply by Countrysideflair on November 21, 2011 at 10:36am Satellite is awful for anything except email. It may be fast, but you are limited on how much you can download. One streamed NetFlix movie will literally erase the monthly alottment and they will either throttle you down to nothingness or you will be "fined" a ridiculous $10 per GB. At our home, we stream a lot through NetFlix and Hulu... we see monthly downloads upwards of 80 GB. With satellite, this would cost us $800+ a month plus the crazy setup fees.
So we just went with a T1 circuit. We have our own dedicated circuit ("no sharing bandwidth"), several static IPs, and it is always 1.544 Mb/s. Companies roll installation into the monthly fees and they do carry a term (ours is 3 years at $230/month). That is cheaper than my office rent, so I created a "home office", and we are now saving a lot of money and enjoying flawless internet access.
