I have this error message. It says that: "Steam.exe (main exeption): The registry is in use by another process, timeout expired".

WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN?!?!?!??! GAHHHH!!!!!

Steam is a piece of garbage. PLEASE HELP! WHAT DOES THAT MEAN and what can I do to fix it?

Have you tried reinstalling the Steam?
Go to the Steam folder, delete the .blob file, then load Steam. It'll force it to redownload itself and update it.

One thing to keep in mind also for future errors: if an update freezes and eventually spits out an error, it probably wants administrator rights so you will either have to run Steam as admin or swap to your admin account to update that way.

 

The lame part about Steam here is that it doesn't inform the user about this, it's pretty much anyone guess at times and definitely an issue Valve should address in case of updating as 'standard user'.
