I have this discussion going on at my forum as well - wondered what my fellow geeks here thought - here are mine:

I've had to give this alot of thought, and sadly I can't even think of 5 but the following are my top games of 2009 will likely be when I've played the ones I haven't gotten yet, in order of complete epicness

1. Dragon Age: Origins (360, PS3 or PC)
2. Assassins Creed II (360, PS3 or PC)
3. Braid (360, PS3 or PC)
4. Batman: Arkham's Asylum (360, PS3)
5. Left 4 Dead 2 (360, PS3)

It was a tough one, here is a complete list of the most popular games for all systems released this year to help you out:

I don't think Street Fight IV should have been in 3D at all that is the fastest way to ruin a game franchise take a game that became popular in 2D and make it 3D, perfect example the Sonic franchise.
Megaman got ruined. I think Metroid going 3D kept the franchise on par maybe made it slightly better you could argue.

But taking a franchise like Street Fighter that has an extreme cult following and making it into a 3D game from the 2D game that the people grew passionate about wouldn't have been a smart business move and Capcom realized this.
You are right enough stupid arguing because when you make a statement like "2D is for kids or noob" you lose all credibility that you know what you are talking about when it comes to video games, but I guess I should have already known that when you only answer 2 games as your best of 2009 when the discussion was Top 5. Also the game is Duke Nukem with a M at the end not a N.
Wow both you and FrenchGuy are really passionate about your replies lol. I think that games can go 3D if they are implemented right. Street Fighter could have gone 3D but the fighting system that they chose and controls were awful. I'm not a game designer but I think the Street Fighter 3D games were just built to compete with the Virtua Fighter and Tekken series. They may be able to develop something in the future but they need to be original and not try and copy other games....even though thousands of other fighting games have copied Street Fighter.

Oh and BTW Beef look at your first post, its supposed to be "Street Fighter IV" not "Street Fight IV." Yeah spelling mistakes happen, don't be a douche cuz of it.
That being said, I think the 2D Street Fighters, especially Alpha series, were among the best games ever.
I wasn't being a douche because of his spelling I was correcting him on the wrong game title like you did to me I didn't even realize that I put Street Fight IV instead of Fighter thank you for correcting me.
Give him a break... hes French! :D
I would have to agree with you here. I don't think anyone is arguing a game cannot be good in the transformation from 2D to 3D - it's that it would have been that much better had they focused on making the ultimate 2D experience instead of porting it to 3D.

Zelda is another franchise that had severe growing pains in this process - and metroid was great, but I still argue to this day a 2D one with cell shading OR Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 coloring would blow away every 3D one they have made to date (if inspired by Super Metroid of course)
I loved Mirror's Edge and Braid, but I'm a puzzle platformer kind of geek.

For sheer fun, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is just awesome and the funnest way to lose friends fast. I thought Smash Bros was bad for that...

Dragon Age is AWESOME the same way that Mass Effect was. And this comes from someone who isn't a fantasy world fan.

Finally, I think that the new Twilight game is amazing and totally underated. Not.

Really though, I ended up playing an embarrassing amount of Puzzle Quest Galatrix. It's just an amazing time sink...
1. Assassins Creed 2
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
3. Left 4 Dead 2
4. Batman: Arkham Asylum
5. The Beatles Rockband
Beatles Rockband FTW!
Such an amazing game it hasn't gotten old either, at least not yet for me.
I'm going to have to look into Mirror Edge now... Great... like I have more money to spend on games! ! AHH!
