Asus - from my experience, I still have 2 Asus mobos running well (one 5 and one 4 years), Acer is good, too. I currently have Foxconn mobo in my main PC/Mac, and it is working flawlessly. Foxconn are cheap and low quality mobos, but in my case, I can only recommend one besides Asus. MSI and Gigabyte are pure shit (I know I will offend somebody, but it's a fact). I had repaired one PC yesterday, guess what, it had Gigabyte mobo, and what died...the mobo...MSI also dies pretty fast. Almost all PCs that I had to work on (repair them) had MSI or Gigabyte mobos or components. Dunno about Emaxx - newer heard of it.
The best are Asus and Gigabyte. But also a lot of brands such as XFX actually has Foxconn make it and they just slap their name on it.
Asus. In fact, they also make the most durable netbooks, in my experience.

Foxconn makes some good motherboards, but most of it's ****. Gigabyte is also good, but I've seen a couple of them broken down.
Funny but mine isn't even on your top 4. I would go with Intel. We use mostly Intel MB here at my place of work. And I tell other hardware's come and go but the MB's still kicking!!!

As far as your list I would go with Asus. The others are more low end boards. Unless of course they've kicked it up a notch since...
I own Asus and Intel MB. The only thing I don't like about the Intel MB's is that there still boring. U know like foxconn, Gigabyte and MSI have those awesomely colored boards with the colored slots, great for cutout cases. There Hawt!! but I would have to just go with performance there fore my boards not being as cutesy as I would like them to be (lol)

Hey, btw
Why does Asus come up mispelled on GEEKS wtf?? When checked for correct spellings I get words like Ass and Anus.
Umm, geeks doesn't have a separate spellchecker. It's your browser's spellcheck probably.
And yeah, "Asus" comes up misspelt on mine as well.

well open up one of those old little pc's that we all have lying around that still works and look at that make then you will have a good answer but atm the gigabyte i find reliable but asus and even intel are good boards
All have their good, all have their bad, it depends on the luck of the draw most of the time and which end of the price spectrum you go for (granted you'd still expect a good product even if it's cheap as chips). I usually go for Asus, but Gigabyte also make some great boards, and tend to go for the more tried and true features wereas Asus tend to be the first to incorporate new tech on them. Asus were one of the first to use USB 2.0, then SATA, then PCI-X and so on and they normally have a good build quality and are well laid out.

You can say the same for all manufacturers but at the end of the day it's all subjective. Some will prefer brand X and others brand Y, whilst some have issue with brand Z and others have non at all.

Oh and to the chap on about how boring Intel boards are, they're supposed to be. They're workstation boards usually put in pro machines or built by folk who know what they're doing so they don't need all the pretty colours lol.
Well, I'll take the first comment as a compliment...
The one about "They're workstation boards usually put in pro machines or built by folk who know what they're doing so they don't need all the pretty colours". Thank you, cuz i believe i know what i'm doing.
U right they don't NEED to be all those pretty colors but some (brands) have showed that they can be. So why not? Why not put out special design/model for those that like the power of a wstation MB but prefer this colorful look.
asrock, they are a Japanese motherboard manufacturer that also uses the super solid Japanese capacitors alot of other companies are now using. im running on an asrock as i type.
My first personal builds were Asus motherboards back in the days of slot 1 and socket A's and I had nothing but issues with them. Then I moved on to Abit. Since they went south I'm just built my new AM3 with an Asus board and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. MSI makes a nice board but didn't have what I was looking for at the time of my newest build. I find Gigabyte to be overpriced. Just my opinion ;)
For either or AMD and Intel Processors (all three of these are the biggest and best classics for the overclockers dream, which means running at stock speeds stable, reinforced, cooler running and designed to last).
MSI
Asus
Gigabyte

For Intel Processors
Intel (spartan and generic, but bulletproof)
EVGA (Classified edition motherboards for the high end i7's)

So basically 5 boards for Intel processors and 3 boards for AMD processors.

Biostar would have been in the running, but I have not have any direct experience with them in the last 5 years, but I only hear good things from others. I would really like to have hands on experience instead of a just gut feeling.
