Recently there has been talk of giving the president the power to control the internet and turn it off. While he already has the power to turn it off he can either leave it totally on or completely  shut it off. So if the president believes that there is a threat so great that the internet should be shut off the government would also not be able to use the Internet so there communication will be severely hampered, but  a new bill will give the president the power turn off certainer parts of the internet  giving hm compleat control.

nobody.

rather a shame that you would believe all the gossip you hear, that can not be legit.
You think that because the americans created the internet, that other countries have not?

Obviously i see it impossible to control the world's internet WIDESPREAD.
If the Chinese wanted to launch alot of hack's against American Network's they could do so easily, can the americans just Shut it off, No.... they'd be shutting their's off which would be a hilarious move of forfeit rly lol.

the internet will likely be a source of military action, more so then it was made for communication, in case of Nuclear war.
the president cant shut down the entire internet but he would be able to shut it down here in america.
no one person controls the internet, and as such, no one person should be able to take control of another person's stake in the internet.
Maybe the oragin of this was true, but as far as I know virtually nothing you said is true. The internet is a huge network. Even if all the internet connected devices in the US were turned off the internet would work just fine in other countries (except for possible overloaded networks, and US sites being down). There is no main control for the internet. It would take a lot of people's cooperation to actually shut down the whole internet. Also image if somebody did shut down the internet, how many people would be tring to assassinate that person?
It'd be pretty simple. If he had the authority to tell ISPs not to deliver then that would be that. That's the deal as far as how content filtering is supposed to be handled in Australia. Despite all the nay-sayers, when I read the initial post what crossed my mind was that its just another way of saying some things can be censored, only without using the actual word "censorship".

I don't know how much truth there is to it but you have to be living under a rock to see that the United States is more and more personally restrictive in the sense that your rights go bye bye as soon as someone says they do. Unfortunately, no one has a problem with this because everyone feels "If I don't have anything to hide then I don't have to worry" and forgets the historical lessons involved, and pisses off the rights that were fought with using blood, sweat, and tears.

I don't know of any truth to the assertion, but don't be so quick to think that something is ridiculous. When I grew up in the United States I was taught all kinds of things like "Criminals have rights too", "Cops have to follow rules", "Good generally prevails in our society", "The government is there to serve the interest of the people that elected it." In a very short period of time, not only was some of that dated, but the degradation had started. Now, we are already in the downward spiral and there are only two ways out. Neither of them are favourable outcomes. Justice and integrity were the King. The King is dead, long live the King. Go the patriot act and beyond!!!
The governments communication would not be hampered in the slightest way ((At least not the communication that matters)) The government has their own 'internet' seperate from the public internet. If I Remember right internet was a DARPA concept.

The person who controls the internet would have tons of power indeed.

Nobody controls it per se.
