I belive that another grat mind was Darwin, because his ideea was even harder to digest than relativity, at that time, not as hard as quantum physics :)) so, in that sense one could say that it would take much more imagination to reach the conclusion of evolution than that of relativity.

I agree with you, perhaps the question should have been the folowing: What discoveries made by smart people were the most brillian (inovative, imaginative, revolutionarry)

How about Stephen William Hawking who is the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge, a position once held by Sir Isaac Newton. He is recognized as one of the most creatively intelligent people of the modern scientific age, best known his contributions to the fields of cosmology, quantum gravity and general relativity, as well as for his best selling popular science books.

As the good doctor Isaac Asimov said. If you wanted my opinion on the second-best, it would be a serious discussion, Einstein, Pascal, Leonardo da Vinci...but the best is a no-brainer: Isaac Newton!
