I am planning to upgrade my OS to Windows 8 from Windows 7. I heard some of my fellow Jamaicans on forums say that they have issues with win 8 and their pc games. They won't work in windows 8. Now I want to get the version of windows 8 that will enable me to use windows xp mode so I can run my games. Granted, the OS isn't out so I am assuming my J'can friends used the pre-release/test release. i just was reading here that Windows 8's XP mode may allow me to use older software that ran on XP. Which version of Windows 8 has XP mode built in or can run with it. I have crysis 2, bulletstorm, fallout 3, duke nukem forever, etc. Can those work on windows 8, xp mode or not when I upgrade? I want Win 8 but I don't want to not be able to use my stuff. Can anyone tell me which win 8 version works with xp mode and/or has it built in and play my pc games as I just mentioned?

Windows 8 does not have an XP mode.  Will you be playing your games through Steam?  If so, you can put a particular game in Windows Compatibility Mode, although it is little bit different for Steam games.  Instead of going to the Properties menu directly from the shortcut of the game in question, you have to go to your SteamApps folder.  Click the name of the game in question and then look for an extension file (make sure you have the option to show extensions enabled in your folder options, as this will make finding the extension file easier).  Right-click that extension file and click on Properties.  You should see a compatibility tab as an option.  Click that and set it to whatever version of Windows you remember the game working in.

For the most part, you should not even have to do this.  The majority of my games have run without issue.  You may have to reinstall Internet security software as certain components may not transfer over quite correctly (i.e. Kaspersky Internet Security).

My question is, why upgrade from Win 7? What would you be gaining?

7 is the cats meow, rock stable with all my games, even the older retro ones.

It's just nonsense, I'm using windows 8 and don't have any problems using games I used in windows 7.
