Geek Out!

More Information

There is a point where the average user has to upgrade his computer and it's usually related to speed and the capability of the system to handle new software. USB3, SSD drives, Sata6, improved chipsets, 3D applications, just to name a few are becoming mainstream and will make the purchase of a new rig necessary in order to handle the data we will throw at it.

And it's coming fast. What is the hardware upgrade that appeals to you the most and will make you take out your wallet.

it's out just waiting for a company to bring it to the market. now what company will make me happy faster?
if i bought it all i would never get it put together. a company needs to step up because that's the first thing after vacation i am going to save for. peace. gregg
Well, I think the Processors are the hardware which are making the real differences at the moment, most users will only use 3-6GB RAM max these days, and this will probably remain for a while, while the processors improve pretty much every month. I usualy stick to 2-3 brands when purchasing hardware, even while friends or sites recommend otherwise.
I have -------------------next system will be
1-Windows 7 32 bit (x86), --------------------1-Windows 7 SP2 64 bit (x64)
2-3GB ddr2 ram, ----------------------------2-6GB ddr3 ram
3-double core 3ghz, -------------------------3-quad core at 3ghz
4-Dvd burner 16x, --------------------------4-Blue-ray burner 4x
5-sata2 500GB hard disk ---------------------5-250GB Solid state hard disk SSD
6-nvidia 9800gtx, -------------------------6-Ati HD 5970
7-POwer supply is 500 watts -----------------7-powersupply 1000 watts
To make it simple, I have a high end 32 Bit (x86) system.
*I know that my processor is 64 bit compatible but it is not optimized for it,
it work better on 32 bit (x86)

My next upgrade will be a high end 64 bit machine in the next 2 years.
That is why I told that I will have the second service pack of windows 7 ( SP2).
Currently atm i run a Asus Rampage II Genre X58 Motherboard with a core i7 920 Quad-core processor completely fast enough for absolutely anything necessary to the personal computer, Along with 12GB's of fast 1600Mhz Ram, and i can Expand to 24GB, and my board has support for Six-Core processors. I have a Radeon 5870, with all the latest graphicing technology and DX11. All i am missing is USB 3.0 as i do have that SATA stuff etc, it's all good for a few years and is upgradeable to make it last even more years, all i need is to throw in a PCI USB 3.0 Adapter.
and were good.
if you're a desktop user you have the option to upgrade and modify the machine whereas if you're stuff with a lappy you're pretty much screwed for the next gen tech :(

with pci express 3 delayed the only thing too look forward to is usb 3 and sata 6gb/s addon card
Thought I'd let you know since I just bought new parts for an old desktop computer I had...

My motherboard fried... so I had to change it + CPU + RAM...

Got a new ASUS motherboard (I don't really mind the mobo, as long as I have all the plugs and sluts I need).
An AMD 64bit quad-core 3.4 GHz (that rocks, seriously, I was used to a dual-core 1.6 GHz laptop, so I'm just amazed at the speed right now)
Added 4 GB of DDR3 RAM... that's the latest I guess... Had half of it on my laptop, so that's very good for me now.
Kept the old 256 MB video board, since I don't play new games much (still on C-S:S for those who know) that's plenty of video power for the OS, but when it comes to big time gaming, there's a lot better on the market.
Added a licence for Win7 to this.
i need the mobo you got if it comes with all the sluts. lol
lolll While writing it I remember it felt awkward, but I didn't look it up... Now I recall it's slot .. oops! English is not first language, so that's the kind of things that happens sometimes >.< haha Sorry... lol
dang there goes my hope of building a pc that has built in sluts. lol the right slots are nice to have though
I just bought a new computer and the processor speed was my main concern. I will never use the Hard space that came with it. I also wanted more ram. It is a dual core and I can tell ya that I have no clue about this computer like I did my old one.

The old one is still kicking it but after having it for 7 years, I just wanted a new one.

It is fast and is running Windows 7 which was the main thing. I wasn't going with Vista. I love Windows 7 as it is so easy to understand.

Anyone else running Windows 7 and love it?
Yeah, I think 7 is good. It's not great, though, as we certainly could ask more from such a company as Microsoft. Linux and Mac are not below them anymore. Maybe on some points, but I'd be curious to see and overall objective exhaustive evaluation of each and compare.

So yeah, 7 seems to be a good step forward from XP, but they'll have to speed development up a bit to keep competitive in the long run IMO.
