So far these are the items that I have compiled;
Raidmax Smilodon ATX Case with 500W Power Supply (ATX612-WBP),
OCZ GameXtream 700 Watt ATX 12V Power Supply (OCZ700GXSSLI),
Barracuda 500GB 7,200RPM Serial ATA-300 Hard Drive (ST3500641AS-RK ),
Acer X223Wbd Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 2500:1,
LG Black DVD Burner (GH22LP20).

Currently I am awaiting and amassing the remaining monies. When I have the available funds I will make the appropriate decision on motherboard (ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 DDR3 AMD 790GX ATX AMD Motherboard), cpu (AMD Phenom II X4 Socket AM3 Black Edition Processor), memory (OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory), and cpu cooler (XIGMATEK Dark Knight-S1283V 120mm Long Life Bearing CPU Cooler). I will do much more research before buying these components, probably sometime in May 2009. I am definately leaning towards AMD ( more bang for the buck), AM3, and DDR3 as this will give me some future upgrade room. I will also add a good video card, but this is another future upgrade.

me and a friend built the oil pc you see in the group info pic (not that exact one, but one exactly like it). if you decide to make one be prepared to get some really weird looks when going to buy the oil. you need 6 gallons to fill that model fish tank. buy 7 just in case. and i will warn you right now it will make your room HOT as hell. so have good air conditioning.

also, DO NOT!!! buy vegetable oil if you are smart. you need mineral oil, you can get it at a feed store (farm supplies). vegetable oils WILL ignite if they are heated up to much (average heat is 150F to 290F for an oil pc depending on what parts you use and system load). also veg oil just looks disgusting.

I'm considering making this my new build. I'm open to any and all suggestions and comments. I probably won't get to complete it until Christmas. This computer will be used for a variety of things; i.e., web surfing, gaming, media/graphics, and some software beta testing among other things. I would like to run Vista Ultimate 64 on this machine, or maybe I should say multiple operating systems. I already have the case w/500w psu, a monitor and two DVD burners, and am collecting parts as money becomes available. Money is an issue and I am trying to keep this build under $500. Oh yeah, the prices are only an approximate. Also, the reason I am leaning towards an AMD processor is price and performance. If there is an Intel Core 2 Duo processor that is comparable in price and performance to this one I would be open to suggestions.

Just wondering, but have any of you ever flipped your Power Supply so that the air intake and outtake does not inter the case at all?

I did this and the average Temp dropped a lot. I also took the housing of an old fan I had that stopped working and mounted it to act as a funnel to help force the air up and away from the top of the case.
