Best file format for web graphics? Advantages/Disadvantages 3 Replies

So I was just wondering what you guys the best format for web graphics is? I know a lot of people use PNG's, personally I use GIFs. What are the Pros/Cons for different formats?

i need to replace picture it because it stopped working on all my xp pro systems. and i liked the metal and the plastic wrap effects of it. as well as the easy way of cutting the background out of a image.

so any ideas as to which is the best replacement for free will consider buying one if it is doing what i want.
