HP slimline with embedded video, I added a diamond (really cheap) video card in the only pci slot it had.

can xp use both the embedded and the expansion card to do dual (extended) monitors?

I believe so, yes - a friend of mine uses roughly that setup ;-)

it could work if the BIOS of the HP machine supports this.
Some BIOS-Chips tend to deactivate onboard-video when another video card is detected in PCI slot.

Can you post further details on the machine and the video card you used?
