It would be a shame to not do them at all.

I really hope that they do 7, 8, and 9 while Lucas is still alive. It would be a shame for them to do them posthumously.

I do too. You can google and find the proposed screen play synopsis for episodes 7, 8, &9. and do make for an interesting read. I just scanned over them and didn't read all 3 clear through.

Yeah, I've read the the proposed screen plays for 7, 8, and 9 and they do follow a trilogy of books that takes place years later when Han and Leia's kids are much older and Luke's Jedi academy is more established. I remember also reading the books and know it is another great story and I hope Lucas does get around to making them. He has been quoted as saying that he wouldn't do anymore trilogy movies since the nearly take a decade of his file to complete, but later stated that he wasn't totally against it. All we can do is cross our fingers and hope.

No I agree, I liked the story as well. I was just saying that it's not the "third trilogy". Lucas already has the concept for 7,8, and 9. That's all I was trying to say.

Zahn's trilogy, as well as the other books he's written that take place years after the trilogy have been embraced by Lucas himself. Timothy Zahn is the one who came up with the concept of Corascant being a planet that is one large capital city. This lead to it's appearance in the Special Edition release of Return of the Jedi as the Emperors' statue is toppled over, as well as it's inclusion in the prequel movie trilogy. Seeing his books as movies is something Lucas did indicate would be a great step, but the actors aren't able to play the characters at the ages they would need to. However, wouldn't an ultra realistic CGI anime of them totally Rock? One can dream.

Erica,
Heir to the Empire is Zahn's book, is a pretty darn good read, but is not "canon" as such. I liked the story anyway, and could see it as a movie.

They aren't the third trilogy, and are too inaccurate. Lucas already has the concept for the third trilogy, whether or not he actually does it we'll just have to see.

There were talks, for awhile, about an animated movie (like Clone Wars) following the original trilogy, but I believe it was dropped.
