After over 20 years and 40,000 work hours on Macs in the graphics industry, Mac zealots don't even TRY to tell me how wrong I am.

Comment by DTM on February 26, 2013 at 9:28pm Some people out there like doing specialized things, fanaggling, twisting, porting, all kinds of crap. In those cases people just gotta do what works for em. For heavy rock solid mainstream computing, Win 7 is my baby.
Comment by Tyler Brown on February 24, 2013 at 9:40pm My point on the Apple core is it being a very very heavily modified BSD. And BSD is very very efficient, hell, ScaleEngine runs on it!
But like I said, I am very much a **NIX user. I like having the option of having a real terminal to go into if something happens to break.
I can get Linux to run very comfortable on a P4 with 1GB of RAM, OS X on the other hand was never design for a Pentium 4 therefore really wouldn't run well on it in the first place. For that time period, OS X ran on comparable G4 processors, or G5 processors, although IBM really dropped the ball with the G5 in terms of cooling. Up until around 2004-2005, PPC was very much a superior CPU architecture to x86. That was one of the main reasons the xBox 360 and PS3 ended up being PPC based gaming consoles.
I also wonder how different Apple would be today had they purchased BeOS instead of NeXT. Although they probably wouldn't be where they are today mostly because NeXT had Jobs, BeOS didn't.
Comment by Gibson on February 24, 2013 at 8:38pm See Linux is the future for Windows users If Microsoft keeps Fucking up.
We will all Stand by Windows 7 (especially gamers, businesses, etc) for many years down this road till 2020! or until the OS to slow to Run good on Faster hardware and is no longer supported by the vast majority of games! AND We will Rig Windows 8 with a start menu to last just a bit longer, after that, It`s Linux.
Hate to say it, i don`t like apple products either. I Do not mind the iPhone and iPad but thanks to steve jobs bullshit death wish and his companies constant sueing in attempt to Destroy the competition and leave consumers with only 1 choice has made me In capable of owning those devices, or ANY APPLE PRODUCT AT ALL. and i do miss my ipod, but i love my Galaxy Nexus.
In the future i will always have an old working Windows system the way it was meant to be.
But If at any way that Desktops or at least True laptop computers survive and are still around in the future i will Run LINUX on them if windows fails. or i will simply fall into the tablet craze and do all my gaming via Consoles.
Comment by DTM on February 24, 2013 at 7:44pm @Tyler I do love my Steam Gaming account. I disagree on the "kernel" of Apple being better, it still has a mind of its own sometimes which is why I came to hate it. Windows 7 core is an absolute Rock. You can run it comfortably along with many apps in 1 GB of RAM, even on and old P4, try that with OSX. That's efficiency. I don't even hear of crashes anymore. Well for that Matter XP never let me down either in that regard, solid as a rock, but is was a crumbling OS, had to be highly maintained. Win 7 takes care of itself more.
Comment by Tyler Brown on February 24, 2013 at 11:09am I am disappointed by the lack of Debian based distro logos. :(
I <3 my KDE 4.10 setup on *buntu 12.04.2 LTS. =D
Although, the main advantage of OS X over Windows has to be the Mach kernel, and a real terminal that is actually usable. But, really, that has to do with my bias towards **NIX. :D That, and Apple's more conservative approach to implementing iOS features into OS X, even though I'm not a huge fan of iOS in the first place, and I'm an Android user who owns a Galaxy Nexus. But I just can't agree with purchasing hardware that limits what I can do with it. Steve Jobs wasn't great with that, but Tim Cook has been crazy about soldering everything onto the logicboard.
Although the media conglomerates, Netflix, and Adobe don't seem to see anything special, Valve does. Steam for Linux is really going to help move things forward big time.
Comment by Gibson on February 23, 2013 at 11:26am all this touch crap. i knew they were gonna do it anyways.
Why microsoft needed to get involved in this, it's not their game, Keep your dam phone ambitions, fine, But leave the Conventional Desktop OS The Fuck alone.
If i wanted a tablet i would of gone with an android tablet already.
:) I Can upgrade the snot out of my computer upwards to 32gbs of ram that'll Sure Last a while.
Can Fit 2 GPU's In Crossfire mode to Jump it up longer. As far as basic computer at fast comfort, I Expect to still be using this computer over the next 4-5 years. If microsoft has still sh it the bed hard I'm On android or any other OS that appeals to me better then android.
After all i'd only keep something like 8 if i absolutely had no other option to run something specific like a game or 2.
Most of my games still Support XP and still arre.
Comment by Gibson on February 23, 2013 at 11:22am Windows 8 is that bad for me.
I Hate it without the start bar it's destroyed. With the start bar so long as it's Windows 7 for still I'm Good. But i Do not like a Non Microsoft add on at all.
Regardless of what people can do to make windows 8 better, its just as Much a failure as Vista was.
Honestly i would prefer vista. People used WIndows XP For a very long time and some still are as it's Very useable for basic things still just not well supported and full of security risk. I"ma be following that road and running with 7 for quiet some time.

Comment by DTM on February 20, 2013 at 7:28pm Windows 8 aint so bad. It can be made to look and run like 7.
Win 7 will be supported a few years yet. No worries.
Never buying any Apple crap, no matter what. 20 years of pain is enough. J/S
My reasons are you cant work a Mac and multi-task as hard as a PC, they get all confused and lock up. I hate the Apple hardware cookie cutter look, sick of the prehistoric cave look of OSX.xxxxxxx.xxxx. Blue gray blue gray blue gray... GAG.
Too expensive, pay for the name. You pay for fancy twisted marketing. Back compatibility is non existent. Not compatible with anything else. OS Update every few months... you pay, You pay and you pay thru the nose for software that will soon be outdated. You pay and you pay and you pay. If it breaks you REALLY pay. No choices, Apple RAMS down your throat what they want you to have, not what you choose.
My book on "Apple why the hell would you want it?" has gotten pretty thick over the years.
I'm just makin' a statement here, people don't have to agree.
Comment by Gibson on February 20, 2013 at 4:30pm I'll be using Windows 7 On Dual-core laptop and Quad-core Computer tower for the next 4 Years Guranteed, and if i still don't see shit all i will keep using her to 2020.
People were able to thrive off Windows XP For quiet some time, thanks to the still very viable Socket 775 platform having good dual and quad core cpu's I'd say Microsoft has Alot of time to smarten up, but the question is when are they going to STAY THaT WAY.
I Have more personal reasons for not wanting to use apple products that go beyond the most typical heard, Like "No custom build" "Too expensive" "Proprietary hardware".
