Sadie Wins at Westminster

Posted on February 16, 2010 at 11:00pm 0 Comments

The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is one of the world most prestigious showcases for dogs. It means facing tough competition to win the best in show. And this year, the honour goes to a four year old terrier, Sadie:
"... Sadie succeeds Stump, a lumbering Sussex spaniel, who staged a comeback at age 10 last year from a four-year retirement that included recovery from a nearly fatal illness. Stump has retired again to Houston, spending…

Golden Retriever Saves Boy from a Cougar

Posted on January 5, 2010 at 10:00am 0 Comments

It started as a small story on January 3rd, 2010. A Golden Retriever in Boston Bar, British Columbia protected a young boy from a cougar. The story was reported by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC):

"A boy from Boston Bar, B.C., whose golden retriever saved him from a charging cougar, says he wouldn't be alive if his dog hadn't stepped in.

Austin Forman, 11, was gathering firewood in his backyard at about 5 p.m. Saturday when his dog, Angel, started acting…

Small Dogs Do a Big Job

Posted on November 4, 2009 at 5:21pm 3 Comments

Gordon Doane of Cape Coral has small dogs. Nevertheless, they alerted when there was a break-in and they did a great job of protecting the house:

"... When Gordon Doane's dogs started barking while he was in the shower, it was his first sign something just wasn't right.

"They were barking in the other part of the house and kept it up and finally the smaller dog came into the shower with me and started pulling on my leg," he said."

Boomer Is a Big Dog

Posted on October 15, 2009 at 11:47am 0 Comments

It might be difficult to put things in high places, out of Boomer's reach. He's tall and may be the world's tallest dog:

"... Boomer, a 3-year-old Landseer Newfoundland (Newfoundland is his breed, which hails from the Canadian island of the same name, and Landseer refers to his black-and-white markings), is here to fill that second void. Boomer measures 36 inches tall at the withers (the ridge between the shoulder blades where dogs and horses are measured for height) -- a bit… Continue

Ella's Dog Story Is About Loyalty... and Love

Posted on October 2, 2009 at 1:30pm 0 Comments

Ella is a Rottweiler and her recent misadventure is a story of loyalty. It is also a tale of love: the affection of a dog for her family and the kindness of a dog person, Kathy Wilkes-Myers. She understands dogs and knows that dog behaviour is not random. There is a purpose behind canine behaviour:

"... Kathy remembered two weeks earlier she'd driven by an accident on the same stretch of highway. She remembered because it was such a horrible crash. A single car had flipped over… Continue
