1) Make sure you download stuff what you REALLY REALLY need. If you know that you are going to use it for a few days and just not use it anymore, then don't even download it, it doesn't waste your time and you could have saved your computer from spyware, virus, trojan, ect.
2)Make sure you have a good anti-virus and anti spyware and firewall. What I recommend, if you don't want to spend money on a anti-virus, is that you get Avast! At avast.com
