Industry-Standard Programming For Beginners: Lesson 3 (A Simple Program II)

This tutorial is a continuation of the explanation of the example program introduced in the previous lesson.
Now that you know roughly what the program does, you may be wondering why it is written in this elaborate way. The result could be worked out with a calculator in much less time than it takes to read the program and certainly less time time than it…

Industry-Standard Programming For Beginners: Lesson 2 (A Simple Program I)
The very simplest kinds of computer programs are introduced in this post. Even so, there is much to learn – the basic structure of a program, how to feed in data and lay out results, but most of all how to get the computer to do what you want it to do, and, perhaps more importantly, find out what’s going wrong when it doesn’t.
Computers, much like the Delphic Oracle, are used to answer questions, but, as with the Oracle, you need to be careful how you phrase your request, or…

Industry-Standard Programming For Beginners: Lesson 1 (Introduction to Programming)

The computer revolution has come upon us in three main stages. First, in the late 1950s and the early 1960s, medium to large-scale firms began to convert their operations to computers, often causing great upheaval and occasionally chaos. These problems were not caused so much by the computer itself, but by the need to organise all processes in a systematic manner for the…

How To Start Your Own Network
If you are trying to think of making your own network, here are some steps to get started. First of all, think of what you want to do. Make sure you like what your doing, or else you WILL get bored and stop within a small time. Say you like making news and such, proceed and do news. But if you like making vlogs, and don't like news, don't create things about news. If you see my point, and your serious about doing a certain thing, go for it. It takes time,…

Is the U.K being left behind in the Information Tech era compared to the U.S?
Is the U.K being left behind?
Is the U.K being left behind in the Information technology era? Okay so it's not like we're stuck in a time warp with box TV's and a dial up connection but compared to our friends across the pond are we falling behind?
If you read the article from earlier that was featured you'll know out internet speeds are nothing amazing. Mine is just under 5 megabytes per second but comes down at around 750…

Testing out Windows 8
I was using my Thinkpad for school but the advantages of OS X for multi-tasking have relegated my Windows/Linux laptop to lesser duties. While I was working on a paper I got the idea to give Windows 8 another shot, so I popped in a spare hard drive and used a USB installer to clear out the old hard drive and install Windows 8. It wasn't as smooth a process as it could be, the wireless card was not detected so I had to plug the computer in via ethernet in order to access the Lenovo sight and…

The Web is Not User Friendly! Accept it!
A long time ago, when I was younger, I thought that I, yes Jacob, was cool just for being a so-called, troll on the internet. I mean yes, it was a little enjoyable, but as I grew older, I learned what I was doing was wrong. Although I learned, it doesn't mean that other people learn. If fact, last week I was talking to someone who has been a Web-Troll, or activist against the weak, for his whole Web experience. As I was saying, he just hasn't learned…

The Best Consumer HD Camera?
You may think that you can just buy any Camera from the store, and it will work great. Well the truth is it may, or may not work. Depending on the sort of thing you plan on recording, you might make a mistake. Say your a Vlogger, well you may want to consider buying a small, yet very durable camera. For Vlogging, I recommend your best bet is a Cannon product, you can see their site from right …

The Strong Points Of Windows 8 (Apollo).
1) As the name suggests Apollo will be the first platform to unify the computing experience across phones, tablets, Pcs and laptops.
Microsoft’s move to distinctly brand their devices as the bold new face of mobile operating systems with the windows phone, that’s simply faster, as seen with its powerful Nokia Lumia handsets. The handsets distinct look will be a great gimmick and sell like hotcakes, once the phones are sold the incoming tablets and ultra-books will…

Hello Microsoft are you there? It’s me desktop.. Let me in!
The windows 8 platform is a great leap into a preview of what is going to become the future of unified computing across platforms. Windows has decided to combine it’s two operating system’s ecosystems i.e the metro (from the windows phone OS) and the desktop (a glorified windows 7). The union of the two ecosystems is represented by your start screen. However Microsoft’s underestimation of the importance of the traditional desktop and better integrating it…

Why 41 mega pixel is overkill
Okay everybody has to agree phone cameras are good but not good enough (from what I've experienced so far) It's not all about mega pixels lenses on phones are far to small in my opinion. They could be better and so far the best I've seen have come from the Nokia Pureview. I agree they're good but it's to far. If you want to take quality photographs you buy a real camera not a phone with a good camera.…

Word processing for people that don't need word processing
In my graduate work, I need to write another couple of papers every week. These papers often require citations, headers, footers. Most people don't need this level of features and may not want to get a piece of software that is full of options that they don't need and won't ever use. They might decide that they can get by with Office Starter, which included Microsoft Word, but the version it comes with has very few features and includes advertising. Another option would OpenOffice.org or…

Off To California
This Friday, or maybe Saturday, I am going with my family to California. My grandmother's brother lives in Pitssburg so we are going to go visit him for a few days. Hahaha! This will be extremely fun, I think! My aunt and uncle are also going with, and they're just pure awesome! Anyway, my uncle wants to go into San Francisco to see the Navy ships or something to that extent (can't remember). If he does end up going, I'm going to hitch a ride with him. I'd love to be able to come back to…

Are We (the Linux community) Doing Enough?
In order for me to be honest, I must admit that Linux really does not need to go mainstream. We already know that Linux is a viable alternative to Windows via the Ubuntu and Linux Mint operating systems. Whether or not Linux becomes more popular or mainstream will not change that fact. It also will not change the fact that Linux has many advantages when compared to Windows.
However, do not misinterpret this as me giving the finger to potential new users. Far from. I…

I Am A Closet Geek!
I am a closet geek!
I have a normal social life. I go out and drink and party. I have a wonderful family, three kids and an amazing wife.
But, that's right I love tech. I have for years. I built my first website when I was sixteen that was thirteen years ago! However, none of my friends really know too much about that aspect of my life. I have never really hidden it I simply don't have a lot of friends that like tech as much as I do.
The Internet is by far the most…
