From now, every Sunday will be ‘App of the Week’. Every week, I’ll go over, and review an app, wether it be for iOS, OS X, Windows or Linux. So, here’s week 1.

This weeks application is MacPilot.

Developers - Koingo Software

Price - $19.95 - £12.80 - €16.20 or a free 15-day trial.

Product Site - Here

Compatible with - OS X

MacPilot is a Mac OS x configuration tool. According to the developers, it Unlocks 1200 NEW features that otherwise would only be available through the Command Line insides of OS X. If I were to go over every single tweak in this app, it would probably crash my blog, so, I’ll be going over a few of my favorites.

One tweak that I think is really cool is the ability to be able to disable Dashboard & Expose. While these features inside of OS X are pretty neat, they take up a tonne of system resources. Disabling these will increase boot up time by quite a bit, and can make your Mac that little bit speedier. Perfect for older Mac’s. To disable these, when in MacPilot, in the side bar, click “Dashboard”, and check “Disable Dashboard”. The same goes for Expose.

Another really neat tweak is being able to disable the Genius & Ping sidebar in iTunes. I’m sorry, but iTunes is already well to put it easily - Disgusting. So disabling these unused (At least for me) features, really help’s enjoy my media a little more. Also, from the iTunes menu in MacPilot, you can disable those annoying automatic backups in iTunes. To Disable these features, hit “iTunes” in the sidebar - and check “Disable Genius Sidebar” - “Disable Ping sidebar” & “Disable automatic device backups”.

These tweaks are just a few of the really great tweaks that Mac Pilot has to offer. MacPilot comes with a stunning looking UI, and really fits in with the OS X feel. MacPilot also comes with various options for things such as - Power, Startup, Network & Disks. So, really for a great price of $19.95 - £12.80 - €16.20 - You’re getting an all-in-one Mac Configuration tool.

Not only does it come with all these great features, there’s always new tweaks being added, so you can constantly stay on top of your mac. Now, for those who say Mac OS X isn’t customisable, send them to this blog post.

Overall, I highly recommend this Application for both new Mac users, and long-time Mac users.

I give this app a -  5/5
