Are You Making Money with Google Adsense?

Pretty much every website/blog owner runs ads. Some of theme are legit, well placed and well designed. Then some other website owners have no clue what they are doing and they put ads everywhere and they look awful. Everyone has seen the good side and the bad side of using Google Adsense. If you started a website just for making money and not blogging or updating, then stop reading this post now and go re-think your money making strategy.

I have come across several different E-Books that explains "Adsense secrets." The truth is, there are no "secrets" about it. Either you know what you are doing or not. For those of you who need a little help with Adsense optimization, here are a few tips to get you started and on your way with making money online.
  1. Make sure that you are placing your ads in the correct place. Never just stick one inside of your post or in the middle of your page. I have one the the right but that is acceptable for ad placement. Why? Because it is not in the way of the flow of the post. When you start putting image ads at the top or bottom of your post, that is almost as bad as spamming your users.
  2. Never put image ads in the main content area of your blog. Maybe one in the header but no more than that. As you can see, I have an ad in the header. You would think that this ad would be the main source of money that I get, right? Wrong. I barely ever get a penny out of that ad. I make most of my money from the two text ads that I have sitting in my pages.
  3. When creating an ad, make sure that all of the colors match up with the other pieces of content on your site. That is very important. You do not want your ads to stand out. You want them to blend in with your site.
  4. One thing that the team of Google Adsense does is only allow up to three ads on one page. I think that is great. You should never have more than three. That is overdoing it. The less ads you have, the less money you are going to make. Yet, the more traffic you will receive in return. If you have to many ads, you may make money but you will loose tons of traffic. Remember, it takes traffic to get clicks.
  5. Let's say your site has a background that is not white. When I say background, I am talking about were your content sits. Like blog posts and widgets. Yes, that area. So, when placing a text ad, you need to make sure that the ad's background color blends in with yours. By default it is white. But if you have a gray content area, change that ad's background color to the same hexadecimal as your content area's background.
  6. Never use any kind of pop-up. That will get you know traffic what so ever. They may be promising a large amount of money but you will never get any traffic with that kind of advertising.
  7. Give things time. If you do things right, it will not be long before you start getting hundreds of dollars a week. Do not let your instant gratification get the best of you.
  8. Remember this, the most important type of site you want good ad optimization is on a community site. Why? Because the community creates the content. That way you do not need to do a thing. Just let the money flow in.

Well, that is about it. Have any other tips? Be sure to send them along to Stephen@techy.tk.

ive been running adsense on my site and ive had quite a few clicks on the advert im sure of it, and just to test this theory i phoned my freind and asked him to click on an advert. When i went into the google control panel his click had not been counted.

Just for the record ive had adverts on my page (displayed inline in the header) for nearly 6 months or so, and in that time ive made a grand total of 23cents, ive e-mailed google to ask why and i have recieved no reply...

Seems that google isnt too good at paying for their real estate....

I make squat with adsense.
Of the six sites I own I make 10 cents a month
at best.
It's like the more the visitors, the less the money I make.
Commission junction pays greater by the click and lets me pick what i want.
but they seem fishy.

I have noticed that compared to the first year of adsense when they first began, I now earn about one-tenth of what I earned several years ago? Anyone else seeing such a drastic drop? The earning seems to drop each year slowly and the last year was really a huge drop in income.

Great article & yes you're right when you say don't create sites just for Adsense - they probably won't make you much at all.

Also when it comes to blending your ads, just be careful you don't transgress Adsense's TOS as lately they have said something to the effect that ads must still look like ads.

I must just add that I make a decent income from Google & have compiled these list of 9 Adsense tips that work for me...
