Changing Apple. What would you do?

Well i won't deny the fact that many people like and dis-like the way Apple is now, some people would change it for the better or the worse
if they had the opportunity to. If you were in the Steve jobs shoes,
What would you do? Would it benefit the Company? Or Would it
make things worse.

What would you do. (S: Solution) <--What
i would do (E: For Example)

Well i know several things that i would do to gradually improve
Apple, for starters, and to make this easier to understand. I'm going
to Jot down the things i would do to Improve Apple. Please follow
along with your own idea's if you like.

  1. Apple Sells their computer's in both portable (Laptop) and desktop format,
however the most they seem to offer is a very small mini, and less
powerful desktop, along with an incredibly unfordable Mac pro tower, which is a-lot more powerful, and serves a completely different purpose, but it's so damn expensive even for the base model.

S: Well this problem is an easy fix, but it would obviously come with
a price. First, I'm definitely going to be introducing new lines of
their computers, and lower the prices of the current ones. Obviously
Apple could use more then Just the mac mini and the Mac pro tower. I
would right away introduce, say for example “More desktop towers”
that included many different specifications, all with their
respectable prices. This would be done with All in one towers as well
as Mini and Mac pro towers.

E: Core 2 duo 2.4ghz 4GB DDR3, Radeon/Geforce integrated graphics,
Starting price Base model 400$ Other options available, What i Am
focusing on here is better hardware for the money, more OPTION for
the money, such as both Intel and AMD, Geforce and ATI. Oh and for god sake, you won't pay 200$ more for an addition 2or 300Mhz...upgrades will be like the rest of the personal computer world!, but ram remains expensive.

  1. Price, well what else is their to do other then ACTUALLY get
competitive and slash em down more to the levels of other competing
    computers with similar specs.

E: You may not find a Mac mini, with Laptop hardware etc, THAT SMALL
and what not, in a very small desktop format, with those specs, for
less then what Apple is offering, so that Stays the Same. However
the All in one's, would be receiving Core i3 and Core i5 models, a
3.06ghz Core i3 with 8GB DDR3, with respectable ATI/Geforce graphics
would be available, base model start 799-899$, as All in one computers
even in other brand names besides Apple, running Windows or Linux,
Can be expensive, get that core i5-750 Quad for 1199$ in All-in one
status, along with Dedicated Graphics and the same 8GB's of ram. Now
that's excellent, that should be offered in Mac towers, like i
demonstrated before. I seen a Gateway All-in-One with windows 7 being offered for 999$, it's a 23 inch Screen, it's also touch screen (but it can be obviously lived without) 8GB's of DDR3 ram, and a Quad-core, ok 200$ more with dedicated graphics and a quad is a good deal, Maybe thinking 1299$, the cost of the average core i5 quad/i7 quad Series of desktop's are in the very Early 1000-1400$ Range. COMPETIVE PRICES ARE A MUST! FOR SUCCESS!

  1. Proprietary, GOOOOOOOOOOOOONE! CONTROL? BOOM HEADSHOT. We are so
using Adobe Flash, until it is no longer heavily required. Customer satisfaction a MUST.

E: Ipod's iPhone's Ipad's, Will have Flash support, and use for Adobe
software. MAKING THE EXPERIENCE BETTER! Competition BABY

  1. Last but not least the Operating system, and a thing to be
changed in Apple's terms and Warranty. I would make it so the
operating system can be licensed out and used/sold on other
computers (You wonder why Microsoft is so successful and holds
90% of the market share, pretty much dominating it, and they
don't even make hardware) Also that uh warranty, if you wanna

charge what you charge now for your computers, were getting b

better then that. Otherwise make the change and stick with the

    1-year and optional extended warranties.

E: need i say more?

Well those are the major things I'd do, But what would you do, if
you could change Apple. Make it more similar, keep in mind, the
Operating system is really the experience.

I agree with Ashleign, Windows users should be able to make some aps.

I would allow it so that Windows users, (like me) could create apps for iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad on windows with a Windows SDK, so people who are on Windows (90% of markets) can create apps for the much coveted Apple App Store.

I have a Toshiba laptop, my wife has a Mac laptop.

If the Toshiba gets messed up software-wise, it's within my skills to fix it, unless there's a new malware that's installed itself (rare). There's software available to fix almost all malware.

With the Mac, fixing it usually means a trip to the Apple Store which is usually a quick fix.
However, we recently had the Mac hard disk crash, which for some reason also lunched the motherboard. Another customer had exactly the same problem. What's with that--coincidence or motherboard flaw?

Paddy i disagree, Mac's Crash. Trust me. Even chris pirillo himself will admit that.
And Flash runs fine on Android Devices. It's bad enough that over 75% and growing of the web is reliant on flash and Apple thinks they can overcome that. I Would severely fix that myself.

Yes yes, You are right, it would be nice to change up some hardware, but would that be any different then licensing out the OS? Hm, they'd have to have their team of writing more drivers for other hardware then their own, now wouldn't they. You disagreed, but ur going against ur own logic now.

Apple Tax, would not exist if i ran the company. Nor would the Ipad. Sadly

I think i agree with the author in that yes Paddy while opening up and licensing out the OS would put apple in the position where it would really put them under a stretch as far as writing drivers and what not, i really see it as the only way they will ever gain market share in the desktop/pc market where 90 percent of the systems out there are still running windows. I say that knowing that they make a mac mini around the same price point as a standard level consumer pc, but with a standard pc for the most part you can still switch out hardware internals to your liking later on, once you upgrade the ram and HD in the mini after its outdated your stuck with this 500 dollar paperweight...lol To me its about value........apples are over priced for their value.

I don't however think apple WANTS to gain market share in the desktop and laptop side. Think about it, they were the first to come out (imo) with the awesome end all of be all consumer smart device in the iphone, then the itouch, etc. Its almost mythic in the level they've portrayed it. So why pump money into the desktop and laptop industry that is probably dying a slow death right now? just my 2 cents

I wouldn't license the OS out. The reason Macs "Never crash" is because the OS is only designed for a few different devices. Once Apple license the OS out, they'd have to create a team dedicated to writing drivers for other hardware components not in their standard line. If they end up the same way as Microsoft, it could end very badly. Look at hackintosh just now.

I also think that one of the reasons Apple don't include flash is to finish it off, it's already buggy and doesn't run on 1Ghz android devices without severe lag, whereas the iPhone can run Youtube with HTML 5 no problem. So since the 'i' devices are taking up so much marketshare of mobile devices, they'll dictate very shortly whether flash stays or goes.

I also think that the iMac is the 'consumer tower PC', that's what it was when it was first introduced, but I do agree, that we need a tower style PC that isn't as powerful as a Mac Pro, is more powerful than a mac mini, and ofcourse doesn't have a hefty price tag.

Another thing I'd like apple to do is to allow you to change certain things in the hardware, I know you can already change the ram and HDD, but I wish they'd allow people to add their own graphics cards. I have a Radeon 5970 for my PC, it cost me £550 (Which is already expensive) and I got it on the day it was released. If Apple were to allow these in their Mac Pros, they'd have to modify them (I don't know why because they already support minidisplay, and have the option for a 6xminidisplay version) and then add the 'Apple tax' probably bringing it closer to £800-1000.
