Community Building Gone Rye..

Hey Geeks!
im new to the network here but not new to the great words of Cris. i have been building my communities for the last couple of years and hit some bumps that im not sure how to get over. One of my communities that i love to death is a gamer based radio station. it has all the tech stuff that any one would want when tuning in or posting info. the issue that i have had is other communities like mine make money from larger sponsors that we do not have which in turn makes it harder to gather new members to a site that doesn't have said "affiliations." we have reserched many other communities that have done or are doing what we are going through the same things in some sort or another. so my blog mainly is a question to a group of people that we have never met. If you were part of a game based casting station what would want to see? we are fresh out of "new" ideas and are looking for input, good or bad, from people on the net. i wanted to say thank you to Chris for making this site possible for all of us to be here. Thanks Man You Rock.

thank you Sherry for your comments. i agree that hitting up other communities is a far reach for sure. the key is originality for sure. the advertisers can be handled through an Ad Company with the different levels that are offered through the affiliate programs. if you have a buisness license you can go to www.cj.com and sign up for adds that pay a percentage of the end sale. it works if you do it right.

webcaster are under fire as it is with the Riaa and Sound Exchange on our heals to pay royalty rights that are outrageous so Censorship just another thing we all have to deal with. i cant see myself censoring any one that volunteers at the stations all i can do is express to them the importance of professionalism.

as far as quality of quantity...I AGREE 100% id rather have 20 loyal listeners than 200,000 fly by night members. Our originality needs to be defined for sure as a starting point.

thank you so much for taking the time to communicate with me on this blog. i will keep checking back and post as i come up with stuff..but for now...more blog spamming me!!!! thanks again.

First, I haven't seen your site, having said that here are some thoughts...

You can try some viral marketing, get a couple of friends to help out. However, going into gaming forums where people have posted for years, probably will not work, people get comfortable in their communities and it is hard to draw them away. So you are going to have to offer them something they can not get anywhere else or try to draw in a specific demographic that hasn't already settled into a community.

If you want to attract advertisers, target a specific group for example if you wanted to attract EA Games you would really need to build out a good EA Games area in your community.

Also, many companies will not advertise on sites that will tarnish their company name. I know the "freedom of speech" fanatics are going to club me for this, but I believe in moderation and facillitation if you have content generated by the public. It can be done with out censoring, you just have to finesse your member base.

I also believe in quality over quantity because I believe quality content will draw, engage and retain more users. Originality is also a good draw, you don't want to be saying the same exact thing that all of the other game sites are saying.

yes we have podcast, one of my stations has over 20. we do have scheduled content for show. as far as sponsors yes we have done that as well; however i think the waters have been tainted by the competitor that got its beginnings with us 2 years ago. i am open for new ideas on types of sponsors to talk to though! as far as the social networks we have the myspace page, twitter, ect.

there was falling out with some of the community about a year and a half ago and for the most part they took most of our then members with them. we wanted to rebuild but have had little luck. we have all the tech for the staff to use and have made it very easy for the people to tune in. i think personally the hard part is giving the community a reason to tune in. since our fall out the other station has somehow given away full computers, hardware ect and we have resorted back to the origins of just having fun with it and entertaining our members. it has been turned into a compeatition of sorts that our members will not compete in. we do no drama and most of all keep everything 100% free.

so maybe that will help the Geeks help me come up with some killer ideas on how to help me raise the community from the dead lol. thanks mouse, Eddie and of course Cris for being so cool and putting up this safe haven for us Geeks! You Rock

Are you doing podcast all ready?

Do you have have scheduled content?

Ever try going after some sponsors?

Do you have a social networking omnipresence to help spread the word about your community?

Not a problem, I am on here a lot as I have to be to moderate the site :)
You should add your site and twitter account under your profile, there is a spote that says "What is your website"
