Let's face it, until the whole world goes
wireless we're stuck trying to make sense out of our ever growing collections of cords and cables. So what do you do to corral your cables and keep them in check - without going broke?
I love using daisy chains!
The Closet Entrepreneur does a great job of demonstrating how to create one. The white cord in the picture is a daisy chain and makes it ever so much easier to handle. It shortens the cord significantly but I can adjust it's length with no effort just by tugging on it.
The little contraption I've got all my cords nestled in was the best $2 I've ever spent. I found it on clearance at an office supply store and I'll be damned if I know what it's called or where I can find it again. It's been with me through three moves and twice as many desks. If anyone knows what it is or where I can get one, please share! In the mean time, I guess I'll have to settle for using
this hack by Creatrope to do the same thing.
Labeling helps too. Eliminates the dreaded "Oops, was that your computer? So sorry! I thought it was the fan. Um, you saved what you were working on, right?" Trust me, even if it's your own private space, it's soooo worth the effort.
Finally, store rarely used cables coiled (or daisy chained) in small plastic sandwich bags. Storing them in bags makes them super easy to sort through when you're looking for something specific. Extra credit for anyone who labels the outside of the bags too!
So, that's my top tips! What do you do?
Cheers!
