Geek Out!

Does overpriced equipment give you overpriced performance or quality?

When buying new gadgets we all potentially want one thing "bang for ya buck," am I right? Well I do, but for some people is not an issue and buy the most expensive things out there. Diamond encrusted gear shifter and usually everything that fits the statement "overkill." Intel Core i7 Extreme 965 I consider to be overkill, especially if you are not going to over-clock.

But when I shop I go for gadget, laptops, hardware and everything else fruity and geeky I look for value. This ensures I have the best performance and quality for my dollar. So what about you, do you just get most expensive or the cheapest and not give value a thought? Or do you research and conquer the field of value?

I think that, generally, not just in tech, but in buying things in general, that the more you pay for something. The more it can do for you. Whether that be outstanding support, or a lot more feautures, the same features, but it enhances them, whatever. It usually will pay off, at least. And sometimes if you are lucky you can get something awesome that was worth a lot more than you pay for. Although this stuff really doesn't come along all that much, but that's for a reason.

I'd have to say "no".

I'm currently in the process of returning my PS3 for a new one (thankfully I got the extended warranty...otherwise I'd either have to fork over $149 for the repair or buy a whole new console.) because the blu-ray player died a horrible death. So it's not always the most expensive thing that is the most reliable. ;)

Hrm.. I prefer Toshiba's but agree with twister's (1st) comment. Look for a "lower" priced computer, & IF the site let's you, play with the components. Things like a (smaller internal) Disc drive, or a non dedicated graphic's card, can shave more than a few dollars off even a "pre-build's" price.

There's something called the "bell curve" relating to technology and the prices/costs. I always avoid the "need" to jump and buy the latest greatest stuff, and try to catch the "trailing edge" of the curve. Let's face it, when something first comes on the market, the first to buy spend the most money. Not to mention they serve as "Guinea Pigs" for the rest of us.

I had a friend in the early 90s who dropped major bucks for a 386 laptop. Within a couple of years he had a cute expensive paperweight! I compare that with my shopping for an internal DVD burner. When I started research they were in excess of $150 (8x speed). Within a year I had bought a dual layer Lightscribe Asus drive (16x) for about $50. Now you can pick them up for less than $25

I'm not saying the process is foolproof. I made the mistake of paying over $600 dollars for a Betamax! Oh well!

i feel the same way when i buy hardware i buy it cause it was worth the money ex i always bu the last gen vid cards because well they are way cheaper and they still do an awsome job. i have an 8800GT and it still runs every game that comes out on high so theres no need for me to run out and buy a 500$ grafix card and its the same with my prosesor no point in getting a super computer if it leaves you broke and i find that by buying the last gens super comp i can aford to upgrade slowly more eficently than if i had boght a super comp of the now

because i have established so many close friends from youtube. i just started out here. and i always go through my accounts and delete friends or useless crap every few months. well friends that never talk too me anyways. like people that are subbed too me. if they never comment or write me. gone. so i'm very active. plus most my friends have my number. we meet at southtube2. i get invited over to friends house all the time from the net. just because we have made close bonds. plus they have seen me at other events and i was always nice to everybody and happy. always willing to help out. like when ronis dad died i sent her money for the funeral. i gift a lot of things. i do shout outs. the main thing is i always clean up my account. like on here i have one i am getting rid of. you see when somebody friends me. i like to keep in touch. people that don't know me and send me friend invites. well if they don't keep up gone. that's not a friend. plus because i stick to mainly a few sites only. it's easy to keep up with everybody. friends and subs numbers mean nothing. to stay on my list you have to keep up or gone baby. like i'm calling some friends in mexico and flordia plus europe when i know they will be awake. i didn't get the unlimited world wide calling plan for nothing. yeah it's pricey but well worth it too me. peace. gregg

well i was gone for a week taking a break from the internet in general. so i have to keep up with everybody. it normally takes 3 weeks to cetch back up from only being gone for 1 week. but it was a nice relaxing break. kara and shelly have fires going on in there area. kattie was wondering what happened too me. was invited to to join another event i went to last year in tn. plus spend a week in fl and sf then australia. what am i made of gold or something. i have to work as well. heck it's never ending. tracy lost her husband. was invited to new zeland. new site my friends asked me too check out. i normally get close to 2000 messages a day now less then 500 from geeks. it's like i live on the net. another reason i'm going to school when i have the money to make money online from medical crap. like beth. i'm not that addicted to the net really! peace. gregg
