Geek Out!

More Information

It has come to my attention that this site is slowly fading away. Most of the users here have gone over to participate at www.LockerGnome.net. Myself, being one of those people, still find myself coming back to Geeks. I love participating in online forums such at LockerGnome, but I find that I need more then just question and answers. This is why I'm still loving Geeks, along with the most popular Facebook. Sometimes, a little interaction between users is a good thing. I love being able to leave comments on various different things, such as: Walls, Pictures, Videos, etc....

I feel like this site (Geeks) is falling apart. I think the active members should step up the game and invite more people. Not only that, we should be more active as a community to draw more attention to the site.

What do you all say, will you guys join me in being more active here?

See the picture? I just ended 12 years of being homeless. I have a government subsidized apartment now. I get food stamps and after my bit of rent and utilities I have about $140 a month. I go to the library to get on the net. I download free games and software. I get games at thrift shops and discount stores. I haven't played Starcraft one yet. I signed on here thinking it was like a facebook type thing. Social networking! Oh yeah. My father was in the Masons. I'm not. I may be able to get a dial up connection but I'm not in any hurry. I have no credit cards. Won't get any. It's legal theft. I use postal money orders: $1.10 each. They don't bounce. Unlike banks. Check cashing places charge a fee. You may have to wait 10 days. Banks nail you with a monthly fee and then charge you when the check you wrote bounces because the one you deposited didn't clear (10 days). The net is a gypsy camp. Raid it for what you need. Then get the hell out is my modus. It's constantly annoying when some app tries to call home for an update and the firewall snitches on it. My antivirus keeps whining I haven't let it get updates. Tough, I'm not hanging around where I can catch a virus. The reason I have a computer is because there aren't any meat units like me to commune with. It also has an off switch. Turn off a meat unit and it's murder. The point is: I'm a geek not a bee.

This site's users haven't GONE anywhere! They've all been banned by that insular, power mad, control freak Kat Armstrong, while someone who's initials are C.P., sits idly by and lets her, seemingly because he has no backbone to oversee things and insure that everyone has their chance at a 'judge & jury' before facing the executioner, for having violated some made-up-on-the-spot, spur of the moment, pseudo protocol. When you cross the line from total disregard for the First Amendment to communistic censorship, whaddaya expect. Posting here is like treading on eggshells, lest one offend someone else's delicate sensitivities - regardless of how warped or immoral they are. Tread lightly folks, lest you be the next one to get the axe. What next? Book burning?

I stopped being an active member about a month back (still make an occasional weekly post), because of the sheer hostility of this community, how everything results in conflict rather than agreement or apathy and how nobody appears to get along with anyone else.

I follow and participate on all the sites within the network myself. I find myself on Geeks most frequently when I get my daily updates in my email though. And, I don't contribute as much as I'd like as I have my own blog to manage and don't have much time to spend contributing to other blogs/networks unless its an RSS share and completely automated. That way I'm just typing up a blog entry once.

@YOGESH PAWAR good idea you should submit it to Chris.

Yeah, you are right about this, the maximum traffic i have seen here is 35, so we should have a Mega Geek party here (he.. he...), where all will come back, or the site anniversary notification's. etc. and all those attractive things that can be done (by Chris) to keep a hole of people in this site).

Sorry if anything is against something or someone.

Another thing showing how much the site has slowed down is the leader board. One person I know that left Geeks said he hadn't been on here for a couple of months and he was still on the Top 100. I tried LockerGnome.net and it just isn't totally to my liking. It's fun answering more different questions but I'd like to see that incorporated with Geeks, not a separate website. I suppose it can't be totally done because of the limitations of Ning but there needs to be almost a re-launch of Geeks so people come back!

Traffic here has slowed down so much! I remember when Geeks first started and people were creating forums like crazy and things were constantly being updated. I spent HOURS on here just answering people's questions and just talking about random stuff! There were always 100+ users online all the time. I don't know if Geeks has just lost it's shine but I'd love to see the site come back to what it was.

Maybe we just ran out of stuff to talk about too...

There ARE some people (like myself) who are just silent readers. I just get the email sent by Kat and read whatever she puts on there. I've noticed that a lot more content is coming from the blog and from lockergnome.net now, but Geeks still seems like a nice community. Even if there are only like 20 active people on here, it's still worth the time to post and comment because it still counts as interaction. Lockergnome.net seems unfinished to me, and Geeks seems more complete.
