Geek Out!

More Information

Up until recently I have just been going to work and coming home, going to work and coming home. Then I decided I need to start organizing my time so I can work on my idea's, but how?

I just started to time everything an allocate certain times for everything. But I feel that there is more to be done. So, I thought I would ask my fellow Geek's. How do you organize your time? Do you use your IPhone? Your Google account? Or do you just go with the flow?

Your comment and feedback will be very helpful.

At one time I worked two jobs. And if you don't have at least decent time management it is just impossible to cope and even be semi life productive. I don't mean only as far as work goes but to have any sort of social life at all. Not to mention I had one set of work clothes only for one of my jobs and was working 5 days a week.

Wow, great reply @Dmitri Girl. I think I will try that. I have already started to make a list as you suggested. Thanks!

I would say organize things in priorities.

Obviously you know you have to be at work at a certain time. Make sure you eat before you go to work. Make sure you eat either at work or on the way home or right after you get home. As for the time in between fill some of the time with things that you like doing. Make sure your life stuff is in order. (clean your , wash your clothes) I am not saying that this has to be done everyday as long as you have clothes for at least one to two days in advance. But if you know that you have plans or arrangements that could stop you from washing the clothes at the later time that you would normally do so take that into consideration and maybe do that load of laundry now. So you don't have to wear dirty clothes later. Mostly what I tell people when they want to manage their time is make sure you get things done that will affect your comfort in life as a whole. Maybe while your on the computer wash your clothes and put them in the dryer in 30 minutes. If you have to buy yourself a timer. Set it so that you know it is time to put your clothes in the dryer. Rather then waiting til later at night or maybe washing and drying your work clothes last minute. If you put these sort of things in a habitual matter it will make life a lot easier other then that.

If you have goals of being fit, then make that a time window so that it is maybe after dinner but before bed. If you have certain times you like to take care of things then do those at those specific times that make it easier for you. Time management is really just being organized and knowing what needs to be done. Sometimes I make lists of these things which can help aid in what you want done if you don't want an exact structure but want to get certain things done in a 24 hour period and if you don't do one of them make it a top priority for tomorrows list.

As most people have said do what you want with your free time you only live once. Try to make positive contacts, or aspirations and good things will fall into place for you.

Trying to time everything is probably overkill and unsustainable, but making a list and a plan for getting through it is a good start. A cheap pocket calendar may be very useful, but have one calendar only so that you always know whether or not something is scheduled. Digital gizmos can be incorporated later after you've got your system down.

I just go with the flow.

I tried going with the flow, I just end up doing nothing... (lol). So if thats the outcome would a timetable system be better?

Just go with the flow and let the technology that you have available; help you through the days tasks and obstacles. It gets to confusing for me if I try and schedule each minute of my day.
