Okay, for all of you who liked my How to Make Your Own Steampunk Gun tutorial, I've decided to make something else as epic. How to Steampunk a Furby. =D Isn't that amazing? I mean, maybe you don't know yet, but you will.

Okay, so you start out with one of these:

Then you take an X-acto knife and cut all its fur off. Sounds easy right? WRONG! It's annoying and you get little Furby fibers all over whatever else you're doing. Then you take scissors and you cut the zip tie at the bottom that was holding the fur on. This is a bitch. Have sharp scissors. I did not.

Then sand all over it. Like we did with the gun. When you have Furby naked he should look something like this:

Maybe not exactly like that, but close. My Furby is old so he didn't have feet like this bad boy, but either way, it's gonna look awesome!

So now that Furby is naked and sanded you bring out that trusty dusty HOT GLUE GUN! You then use it to attach whatever gears, clocks, vents, and soldering you want. Let dry. Admire the silliness that is your almost steampunk Furby. He's about to look amazing.

Then you take out your amazing bronze and black paint, sponge, and brushes. My Furby was mostly black, so I didn't worry about a bottom coat of anything. I just went right in with the bronze. I bronzed him up and used a blow dryer to dry the paint on his eyes. I then put batteries back into him and removed one as soon as he opened his mouth. This allowed me easy access to his innards. I then painted up the inside of his mouth and under his tongue. Again I used my blow dryer, because I'm extremely impatient. So now my soldered, geared, sanded Furby is all bronzey. It's amazing, no? May I just say that I did get paint on his eyes, I felt really bad, but I took a razor blade from the X-acto knife and scrapped it off. It probably hurt, but he's steampunk now, he can take it.

Now break out the sponge! Get some black, gold, brown, whatever you want paint, and sponge that shit! Eventually you end up with something similar to this:

Steampunk Furby! Is that not badass? I mean seriously.

Thanks! Sadly enough he does still sound like Furby, but when he moves his ears and eyes, it sounds like Bubo from Clash of the Titans which adds to the coolness of him being mechanical. I am thinking I still need to add vents to him, you know, for the steam.

Dude, that is badass. Nice work man. I might have to go garage sale me one of these critters now. For bonus points it'd be fun to fiddle with his electronics to give him a nice bronzy sound. You could probably accomplish that by putting a small circuit inline between his speaker and controller board, but I don't know exactly what you'd need to do to get the correct sound.
