Geek Out!

More Information

I've been an Android user for some time now, since the G1 was released. As my T-Mobile employee discount is about to expire if I do not use it soon, I find myself trying to decide between the Android using Samsung Vibrant or the Windows Mobile OS HTC HD2.

I have had the Motorola Cliq for a while now and to be honest, it's just getting old for me. However, I'm concerned about moving away from the Android system. It's what I am used to and what I am comfortable with. On the other hand, it IS a Samsung phone, something I am not too keen on personally. I've never had much luck with Samsung phones in the 10 years I have worked in the cell phone industry and have seen a lot of people with complaints.

Both come with a 1ghz processor and the Vibrant comes with an impressive 16gig internal memory.

So, I am turning to the community. Which phone would you choose and why? I'm not looking for flames against one OS or the other, but instead am relying on intelligent suggestions.

HTC HD2 all the way! The masses don't like it cause of windows 6.5, which they do not know how to handle...And it is the exact OS that makes it the geekiest phone EVER. Just got HD7 as gift few days ago, and hate it all the way because of Windows phone7 OS, which is DOWNGRADE from a previous OS, just a compromise to an average user, not customizable, can't do anything with it, it is - what it is, pretty much a toy program, like Android ...And again, you can run Android on HD2, from SD card, so you have your dual boot - serious OS on one side, and a funny app - on another...

I bought a Galaxy/Vibrant & had it for 2 weeks. My thought was to combine the functions of my cell and my Palm TX. The phone is gorgeous, but the address book and calendar are ca-ca. They have nothing beyond what my Palm had before the turn of the century. The calendar has no flexibility. There is no granular security for either. In addition, i could not get 3G in a building - only outside. So I sent it back and pulled out my trusty Palm again. Android needs to mature a couple of years for the serious user. I can't just watch "Avatar" every day.

The myTouch 3G Slide has fit my style just perfectly. Love the slider keyboard, which I absolutely need. I hate touchscreen keyboards (though if I get around to putting some time into practice, I can see Swype being useful).

You'd be crazy to go with anything Windows Mobile. Comon now! Since it's inception Windows Mobile has set the standard for buggy software. The Samsung line of phones is currently the best on the market hands down. Zero common problems reported with the hardware so far and it's been a popular line for months now. Samsung is making a huge splash back to the top of the electronics world.
