If you haven't been living under a rock for the last month, you know that Ford, GM, and Chrysler are going through a financial crisis. So, first time they go to Washington in $20,000 private Jet flights(thats, $20,000 each), and wanted a bailout because if they went bankrupt, the US would basically not have an auto industry. So Washington thankfully rejects the bailout plan, and said if they lowered wages and benefits for Workers, and made their cars more "green", they would happily bail them out. So a few weeks later they come to an agreement. Washington signs the 13.9 Billion Dollar Bailout plan. 10 Billion goes to GM, and 3.9 Billion to Chrysler. Ford didn't get any money according to CNN and Fox News. But of course, who can trust them(not being sarcastic).
what I think - I'm a huge capitalist, so if a company is in trouble, let it be. I dont believe in Laissez Faire though, thats too extreme. But I do believe in letting companies fail if they are in touble, and regroup. Yes, jobs may be lost because of this, but not all companies have to file Chapter 7 if they fail, they have alternatives like Chapter 13 Bankrupcy, which would be best for the 3 companies. But the main reason why I'm against it is: I KNOW GM, Ford, and Chrysler will still make ridiculous cars, like Ford's GT. That car is useless, and its a huge loss in profit, because the car is like $125,000 but no one buys it. So basically all they are going to do with that money is continue to make those stupid cars they make, and only have like 20 MPG on it, so no one will buy it. And in 3 years they'll probably be knocking in Washington's door asking for more money, and Washington will probably give it to them. I hope I get proven wrong, I seriously hope I do.
also note - these whole "bailouts" that the US is making.. well, isn't making the US a capitalistic country. I'm not saying the US was always capitalistic, but damn I sure hope it was..
