This is the software publisher's description.

Norton AntiVirus 2010 will be the fastest and lightest malware scanner Symantec has ever delivered. Norton AntiVirus scans faster and uses less memory than any other antivirus product on the market. Unlike free solutions from Microsoft, Norton AntiVirus includes intrusion detection to detect malicious code hidden in web sites before it can strike.

Norton AntiVirus’s pulse updates ensure that you are always plugged into Symantec’s global security grid and you are never more than a few minutes away from the latest update.

Improved Norton Safe Web technology blocks Internet threats before they can infect your PC. So you can browse, buy and bank online with confidence. Plus, unlike other antivirus products, Norton AntiVirus 2010 provides easy-to-understand threat and performance information to help you avoid future threats and keep your PC running fast.

Note that you are required to register the product before download can commence.

Hey guys.Theres a better product...will save you time..trust me
A spare pc loaded with untangle gateway will blow all of these out of the water
Its a firewall,spyware scanner,virus scanner,spam blocker,ad blocker and more...
It will catch the viruses and spyware before they even reach your pcs ethernet or wifi card
How it works: your modem connects to the untangle box, your router connects to the untangle box via a second ethernet card..So the spare pc and two ethernet cards...you got yourself a killer solution!

How i know it works...I tested for three months..one pc without antivirus and one with...Neither got any viruses or spyware...Rerely seen advertisements...Neither got slow like a normal internet surfing pc does....

I followed you advice and tried Vipre. It is just as you said low resources, fast, and really good at both anti-virus and anti-malware. I liked it well enough to get a site license and it was only 49 dollars for 5 commputers. I also like and bought the Sunbelt personal Friewall you wrote about. It work great with Vipre. I like most Sunbelt Software programs.

When in 2008 Norton told me, that I am not on their data base with +- 156 days to go, they signed their own dead warrant. Kaspersky for me!!! Dusan

I have to agree with Joe. The 09 Antivirus was a lot lighter than previous years. My family computer is an older machine so it really felt the crunch of the resource intensive versions that I had for a few years. I was reluctant to try 09 because of the pain 08 was and I was pleasantly surprised. Hopefully 2010 is ever lighter! My granddaddy of a computer thanks you in advance Norton.

I have been using on and off Norton AV for many years. It used to be slow, and a pain to use, and several times I gave up and switched to some other AV, like AVG or such. However, the 2009 version was a huge improvement over past versions. It is now light, and unintrusive, which it never was before. Now, and only now, I could wholeheartedly recommend it without reservations. I assume the 2010 version should become even better, as early reports already suggest.

I agree totally with Gordon Keenan. I would never go for any of these sorts of antivirus that commonly come pre-installed. My old ICT teacher recommended AVG Free, so that is my main antivirus, although I am currently testing out Avira and Avast, to decide which I think is the best of the common free antiviruses.

I love Norton's. I use it for everything on my PC. I use others even freebies too. Just that no PC is my PC without Norton's. People say it's a source hogger> but I don't care. It's smoooth to use and I've used it for so many years that, let's just say I'm a satisfied user. Yes, i got my free beta download with OEM #. I hear it's even better!!
