Geek Out!

People are afraid, that statement can explain every person reason for not knowing or using technology. Be it moving to a different platform, or leaning on. Your afraid you will like it better, you don’t want it to be that easy. Why know it when you can pay someone else to? If people realized just how easy it is for places like Geek Squad to do things they probably wouldn’t pay $250 for a hard drive installation. You can do it at home in five to ten minutes. With little to no knowledge.Want to know if you are being ripped of by IT? Question everything they do and see what the answer is, if they brush it off they are ripping you off. Act like you know something, you can bluff most things, just to the point so they won’t try to rip you off. Also you need to know the difference between Geek Squad people, and IT people. Geek Squad hires people that know basic computer maintenance everything they know can be found on google. Actual IT people know everything about their system, and all generic systems. These are the people behind major companies like Ross, Apple, Microsoft, Google, and others.

* Reading the comments this post has been getting I wanted to clarify something, this post is in no way shape or form making fun of or looking down upon people that aren't geeks or that don't know technology well. The point I was trying to make is the fact that people should make an effort to be more comfortable with technology, and not to let themselves be ripped of by companies that would take advantage of them. Hope that clears things up, a big thank you to everyone that commented on this post, and take it seriously.

For those that do make an effort to self educate themselves on technology from computer programing to Microsoft Word I have the deepest respect for you.

I will always respect the person who doesn't know about something and is honest enough to admit it. That "something" can be IT, cars, law, whatever. We can't be experts at everything. I wouldn't expect the guy who framed my backyard deck to replace the hard drive on his pc, anymore than I would have tackled framing the deck. But after I saw it done once by someone who knew what they were doing, I saw just how simple the process was. I'm quite sure the same can be said for installing a hard drive.

The people who really annoy me are those who read an article or two, watch a special on Discovery or catch a few sound bites on the news and think that makes them Rhodes Scholars on a subject.

It takes dedication and perseverance to study and become knowledgeable on any subject. It takes honesty, integrity, and humility to utter these three simple words, "I don't know".

You can't generalize IT techs into two catagories. I've learned everything I know on my own, beyond the basics anyway, and I can run rings around most qualified technicians.

Lol. I am only 14, yet I am more technologically literate than most of the people I talkto everyday, which include "geek squad" members. People need to open their eyes and learn about what they are using

You cannot educate the unwilling, no matter how hard they try not to be PCretared.

That's why, unlike most IT people I've worked with in the past, I try to educate other coworkers when they ask dumb questions etc. Not just be an asshole go in and fix it then leave. LOL course I've only been in IT 3 years now and I can feel myself becoming more "assholish" as I get frustrated with technology ignorant people.
