Question: Pay for Server space - or buy own server?

I've recently bought a new domain name (I now have three - omg) in the hopes of creating a cool template-site where I can post all my template creations for various sites such as myspace, youtube, ning, livevideo and blogtv to name but a few....I want people to go there, choose the template they like and just copy and paste the code I provide, whilst I host the images myself (saves them having to download anything)....

My question is this: Should I pay a company to provide me with bandwith and server space, or should I invest in buying my own server?

I wouldn't just use the server for that one site, I'd use it for all three of my sites (if I can) - as I am fast running out of space and bandwith for the other two and the only real option left open to me is buying a business account with my domain provider (which is much more expensive)....

Anyone got any advice for me? I'd much appreciate it!

The coments are all good and true. One thing to bare in mind is how busy your server is going to be, I would guess initially it would be relatively quiet, depending on how word of mouth, type on net spreads then you may be looking at massive traffic, also how m,uch revenue the server is going to create for yourself. If it turns out to be a full scale business type venture you most definately would need a managed Server with some of if not the best service available, I can only recomend one company for that although a little expensive, but when it comes to service this is what you paying for. Definitely pay for server space. It will be cheaper and definitely easier. Unless you are planning the next YouTube/MySpace/Twitter, a rented server space is always a better solution.

Personally, I recommend HostGator, their service is fast throughout the world and their support is nice as well. $15 a month isn't much, and it's certainly better than buying a $2500 server + a $50-100 colocation fee every month. The end result is pretty much the same.
