I find that reading can be somewhat a problem. I am not talking about reading online. I am talking about sitting down with a book. The reason why I tend to not do that so often is because it is harder for me to pay attention to just plain text on a white or sometimes beige background. I simply cannot. I feel that people should not print books without any graphics or colors. We honestly should require all books to be made into graphic novels or even picture books.

We need something to hold our attention, or at least I do. I have thought for a little while on this topic and I have been wondering; why have we not been printing only graphic novels, picture books, or even books that simply have color or patterns of some sort of design to them. I should actually be reading some sort of babble about witches in the 20th century or something to that extent and was to have it read for class by tomorrow. I simply cannot take the time to sit down and read this thing for a lack of sheer un-interest. I always seem to turn to my MacBook Pro or my Desktop and get side-tracked by something.

I think that this post was misconstrued to a point I didn't want it to be. I was attempting to address that the black and white isn't sufficient for myself. I stated that in a very immature way. I should have said something along the lines of, I think that a lot more authors should attempt to introduce pages of different color. I'm not attempting to say that I want there to be bright pink pages in all novels, that would be absurd. I'm simply saying if we had an off-white page then a white page just to add some contrast to the book it would "catch your eye" more.

I don't know if you all understand what I'm trying to say. All I'm saying is I wish that there was say a colored background opposed to a white one. That's basically what that whole blog post means

I absolutely hate books with pictures and distractions in them. They are the worst kind.

And I love digital books due to the fact that they are literally simply text, and I can choose the background and the fonts and the colours and all such myself.

It is not that I am intimidated by it. I simply would rather have something happening in the background rather than just a white slate for all books.

It's not that I can't read normal books. They just do not keep my attention well enough. I think that we just need to have some shade or tint of a color on pages in books to differ from the norm. I love to read just sometimes standard books with no images or color what-so-ever seem to dull out say 200 pages into it if it is a thick novel.

Good god man. There's a time and a place for everything, but I don't want all of my books to have graphics and I sure as hell don't want to watch movies about the books I've read. It ruins them! A perfect example is Harry Potter, Dumbledore looked one way in my mind (that's called imagination) and another way on the silverscreen. If they could botch it on the big screen, they would have botched it in a graphic novel, and I'm sorry I would rather create the characters in my mind and never be disillusioned by someone else's imaginings.

You should probably practice the imagination thing, it's amazing what you can create in your own little space, where no one else can ever see. God knows I need to, being in the Navy I'd go crazy if I couldn't.

As a teacher, this kind of comment scares me - what happens to brains that are overstimulated from an early age. My students have low exposure to TV and video games, and they love to read printed books; I don't think that's a coincidence.

Digital books are the best.

Whenever I read something on my iPhone I read the whole thing, but whenever I read an actual book I get sidetracked, and bored, and tired and all.
