More Information

Everybody seems to be talking about the iPhone 4, even saying that out loud sounds quiet stupid. WHY? Well you probably by now might have seen at least 5 unboxing videos, 3 review videos and maybe a couple of written thoughts and then even might have searched twitter trends on iPhone to see what people are tweeting about the iPhone 4! Well, thats what geeks do. The iPhone 4 is unique. I personally love Apple and its obsession with innovation. It just seems to lead the way in the Mobile industry just like how a Shepard steers his goat community. Yeah, by now you probably know how good the iPhone is and how it serves as the best iPhone and any smartphone really! BUT, there's more to that. Like any product there are reasons not to buy a product. Its true when they say: that "one" killer feature buys and similarly loses.

Presumably the iPhone does have those annoyances as well and just stop a bit to think of it, these are huge:
1) Probably the biggest to anyone and against the real purpose of a mobile "PHONE" (device) is the the "Phone" itself. Unfortunately the news just went from being bad to very bad for AT&T. The iPhone reception drops on holding the "crevice like thing" in the steel band (acting as the antenna). Sorry AT&T (American customers). All that Apple tells to that is "Your holding it the wrong way" or "Get the bumper for an extra 30 dollars". HUH!

2) If you don't already know this, the iPhone 4 records 720p ! WOW, is my first impression of the photos and videos I have seen so far. But for those people sharing really matters, well, you can't apparently upload 720p (straight) from the iPhone to Youtube! At least for now, the pixels are dropped CONSIDERABLY in the process. But then again that won't be a real downside for the iPhone 4, but think about it. Wasn't there supposed the idea that mobile footage will be shot, edited and uploaded on the "device itself"! Whats up with that Apple?

3) The new iPhone is made of three major components, the Steel band and two glasses (one at the back and one at the front)! Well Apple says this is 30 times stronger than plastic. But initial news have suggested this Gorilla glass is breakable in a spider way! More bad news (yet another reason to get the Bumper protection skin).

4) If you are the kind of user that does not want to see your cellphone device with odd color overlays on it (not even for a bit) then this can be irritating. Apparently the display that was made wasn't dry enough for packing but due to the mammoth demand Apple had to pack it up anyway! And apparently a yellowish patch is appearing in streaks or circles at the bottom of the beautiful retina display. OH NO! This would be what I would see that on my phone! But fortunately for Apple, apparently it dries (so don't worry). Just wait for two days and use it vigorously until the yellow disappears!

5) Multitasking: Yes its available indeed. But it is not the multitasking we normally hear of. It is not the kind we would prefer but also the kind most wouldn't mind to use! Basically its like a human goes to sleep but his brain, memory, heart few and other senses are still working. Similarly the iPhone allows to run few API's in the background such as VOiP, Audio, etc and the app will remember you when you return to it in a bit! Its not full but workable. Personally I don't mind that!

6) Some old problems: Issues like low battery life (though improved on iPhone 4), no memory slot or anyway to expand memory, bad Data Plans, no intuitive response from the device on typing, etc still exist! Though most have got used to it, its still something to think about! And oh, according to sources iBooks app is buggy!

Said that, in my perspective the iPhone 4 is truly phenomenal and is THE best, yes, The best smartphone right now in the market. Its Apple so think differently! I will be getting mine as soon its available in my country. Yes, there are problems but its not as if I can find a device with less issues can I now! The Android community will be geared up about the flaws, but Google themselves knows its short comings (plural0 and admits to it! Bottom line: Apple continues to lead the way!

the iphone look good. But ios is out of date  when you hold it to Android and windows phone 7.

I personally am not an Apple fan, however I think their Iphones are the best mobile phone on the market. So, no matter how much I dislike Apple, I have to say that their phones are actually worth getting. As far as Macs, Ipods, and Ipads go..... don't get me started :)

I don't have an iPhone yet (but soon I will)! And I totally agree with you , as you are the iPhone 4 user! As for the keyboard thing I mentioned, its really not a nuisance for most of us! I meant that there is no (vibration) or response from the device that you have typed apart from looking at the screen itself! This can be a headache for some users but that will only be temporary! And I can live with that! I haven't heard many iPhone users complain about it so obviously its no big deal! its basically the fight between full qwerty vs touch qwerty keyboards! And I also agree that as a multimedia designer myself I would actually want to do the production on the computer itself! But its still an issue most users will complain about (if they realize it in the first place)!

Good article - i'll assume you don't have one in your hands yet. For the Android fanboys or iPhone Haters I'd like to clarify a few things IMHO (& from my perspective as an iPhone 4 user).
1. Reception drops, but calls don't. I know there are at least 5 solid reasons for why they don't cell tower strength & location being 2, but the biggest reason I even noticed is because Jobs made such a big deal about the engineering of this new antenna! Which is why I assume most others have noticed & complained. (way to go Steve.)

2. Uploading to YouTube: it's nice to upload to YouTube via a phone, but as a multimedia designer, if I spend the time putting a video project together chances are I'm gonna enhance it on a real computer using real full feature edit-ware & not my cell phone.

3. Jobs said the glass was as hard as Safire and 30 x's harder than plastic. Oh yeah! I think iFix it posted a drop test. It took 4 drops to even fracture the glass! If you drop your iPhone 4 times in row onto concrete you should either first ensure you've taken your epolepsy medicine that morning or simply buy yourself a Jitterbug phone!

4. Yeah color spots on the screen I haven't seen yet. This display is so so very crisp and nice. Remember this is Apple we're talking about and not HTC. If your iPhone appears flawed in any way that was not your fault Apple will either replace your iPhone or make it right - no questions asked. Does any other phone company do that?

5. Multitasking - Yes it's not simultaneous multitasking ... At least not for all their Apps, but it is for about 4 Apps so far and many are expected to catch up like Skype, so be patient.

6. Expandable data slot ... If you need more than 32 Gb or keep data on multiple cards there are cloud Apps that work quite nicely & provide plenty of Free clouds Apps at that like: DropBox, iDisk ($) and AirSharing ($) to name a few.
AT&T's data has gone from "C'mon Man!" to "WTF!", but for those of us still on the unlimited data plan it's still unlimited. But the necessary evil that AT&T is is the only option now.
* (I don't understand the complaint about the Keyboard)...
iBooks - Not so buggy in my experience. It did lag a bit once or twice on my old 3GS, but on iPhone 4 it's just Fantastic.

Play with the iPhone 4 yourself. The reports online will scare you away before you've had a chance to see for yourself.
