More Information

The music industry I find has changed so much over the past 10 years. This was no surprise because like in life, everything is changing constantly. I always see artists trying to do different things with their music and their voices, and I think this is the major change in "The Game". I don't know about you guys but when I listen to a song with a nice bass booster, raw lyrics, and amazing flow. That is what I enjoy in music, and that has been lost in I feel the past 10 years. Everything is so technical now, with fake instruments and distortion in voices etc. This game is taking a change and I don't think I am a fan of the direction it is going. Let me know what you guys think about music, any type of music for that matter, if you think its changing or if you really like the way the music industry is moving. Anything at all, hit me up.

We began down the slippery slope to musical mediocrity about the mid 80's. There have been some notable exceptions since then, but far too few, which is why I listen to classic rock almost exclusively. To me, nobody did it better than the greats of the 60's, 70's and early 80's.

Bruce Springsteen has created at least two CDs that are worthwhile since the beginning of the decade (I own The Rising and Magic). John Mellencamp is working on new songs as well.

Wife introduced me to Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta, which are new artists by way of the American Idol series. We saw them live two weeks ago--worthwhile. They play rock, not pop. This is A Good Thing...

You would think that with the advent of all the new technology there would be more creativity and that the music business would be more apt to take a chance on new talent. Sadly it appears that the opposite is happening. Trying to please everybody, and pleasing no one in the process. Not an absolute, but it seems that music, and most media is heading in that direction.

On one extreme is the overly cleansed acts that The Disney Channel presents (i have a 10 year old daughter). The other extreme is the "Gangsta Rap" and Lady Gaga. I'm no prude, but if you have to go for shock value or the crotch to make a name for yourself then that to me shows a real lack of creativity and originality.

Even niche cable channels are abandoning their "niche" in an attempt to boost ratings. "TV Land " comes to mind and some of the previously all-movie channels. Our local "Classic Rock" radio station will play old tunes, but not new material from the same artists. I never hear anything from Tom Petty made since 2000, but he's probably the only artist I've spent any money in the new millennium.

I definitely think there is fewer good music being produced today. it seems like so much of it is the same (and doesnt fall within my taste ranges).

However, there also seem to be a few who have resisted fitting to the mold and have stood out in a positive way.
