Well about every once or twice a month when i bootup Vista or Windows 7, my folders and files on my desktop go missing, and the mouse changes to the one found on Windows XP. I reboot (sometimes holding down the power button) and everything comes back. Can someone explane whats happning or how i can fix it? Its (i'm assuming) becoming more frequent.

Comment by JT on April 22, 2009 at 12:50pm: You may have bad sectors on your C: Drive. I would run a Check Disk and also Defrag the C: Drive.

Since you have Vista & Windows 7 you should open up a Command Prompt as an Administrator.
Click the Globe in the lower left then All Programs then Accessories then Left Click on Command Prompt and Select "Run As Administrator". Type: CHKDSK C: /F

Type: "Y" (For Yes) to run it at the next reboot and then you should reboot your PC. It will then reboot and then run a Check Disk. it will try to remove and/or Fix Bad Sectors.

After this is complete then you should run a Defrag. Click the Globe then All Programs then Accessories then System Tools then Defragmentation. Run a Defrag against you C: Drive.

If this does not fix your problems then I would recommend purchasing a replacement Hard Drive.
