Geek Out!

More Information

Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Mark Zuckerberg. Yes, they're all Geeks and they've all changed the world. But why? What is it about them?

In short, it's because they have a passion for the fastest moving and most influential industry in the world, and so many others don't. As I see it, most people only appreciate technology when it forces it's way into their lives and shows them how it can make things better. Geeks, on the other hand, are enchanted by the immense potential it has and actively seek it out. Giving them a tremendous upper hand.

Looking at the list above, it's a great irony that we, the “social misfits” can often have the biggest social impact. We're the early adopters, the viewers of the big picture, the one's that move things forward. We see the world differently. We're excited by the unifying power of technology and how it gives a voice to the otherwise silent.

So to quote a famous Apple ad; “Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers”. Make no mistake, in a world increasingly enveloped by technology, the future belongs to the Geeks. These people changed the world because they knew that. They Think Different.

Failed to mention Linus Torvalds, Tim Berners-Lee and Richard Stallman, come on man : ) They put ripoff artists like Gates and petty dictators like Jobs to shame. Forget about PCs - without the likes of the GNU/Linux folks and the W3C, there would be no web.

Good point. So many people take the computer for granted, but if it was not for Jobs and Wozniak, we might not have personal computers. So many people enjoy social networking but they do not know or care about who made social networking possible. Geeks will forever and always change the world.
