Wi-Fi setups apparently make children sick. This is according to the parents of elementary school students in Barrie, Ontario, who are concerned about their school's new wi-fi network. They claim that ever since their school installed a new wi-fi network, allowing students to access the internet from a wireless device such as a phone or a laptop for educational purposes, their children have been experiencing headaches, nausea, dizziness, and other neurological symptoms. Although these symptoms are likely not directly related to the school's new Wi-Fi setup, these parents blame their kids' symptoms directly on it, and they are threatening to withdraw their kids from the school if they do not remove their Wi-Fi network.
Wi-Fi is a form of wireless communication. A Wi-Fi setup allows a portable device such as a laptop, a PDA, or a cellphone to connect to a building's local internet connection without the use of any wires. Wi-Fi is a very convenient technology that has been around for several years and that now exists in almost every home and public place in the developed world. No matter where you go, there is likely a Wi-Fi network around, whether it is secure or not. Airports have them, public schools and universities have them, restaurants and cafés have them, malls and stores have them, and of course, businesses have them. Parents shouldn't be concerned about their kids being exposed to Wi-Fi signals. Children are going to be exposed to more radiation, and more harmful radiation, when stepping out into the sun than they will be when inside a building with a Wi-Fi network setup. The radiation that exists in nature is far more harmful to humans than any signals transmitted by wireless devices. You step outside, and immediately you are exposed to high amounts of ultraviolet radiation that can cause harm to your skin if you are exposed to it for a prolonged amount of time. Besides, like I mentioned above, Wi-Fi exists nearly everywhere is today's world, so even if the school is to get rid of their Wi-Fi network, there are still plenty of other networks around the school's neighbourhood, so school children are likely still going to be exposed to Wi-Fi signals coming from nearby buildings. Not to mention that everywhere the kids go and everywhere their parents take them, there is likely going to be a nearby Wi-Fi network.
There is no proof whatsoever that Wi-Fi signals, or any other communication signals, have health effects on human beings. This is probably the most bizarre story I heard in a while, and the first time that I've ever heard of anyone having health problems potentially concerning Wi-Fi networks. I have had a Wi-Fi setup in my home for more than five years now, and no one in my family has had any health problems concerning our network setup. The only way a child could be potentially harmed by a Wi-Fi network is if they use it to visit a website that they shouldn't be visiting.
